Neil Young urges young people to fight back against Trump: “He's destroying America”

12-01-2026

Neil Young once again takes a stand against Donald Trump's administration with a new piece published in the "Editorial" section of his official website. A frontal, unmediated attack that opens with a direct appeal: “Wake up, people!”. For the Canadian songwriter, there's no ambiguity: “Trump is destroying America”.

The editorial comes shortly after another piece in which Young expressed his outrage over the killing of Renee Nicole Good, the woman shot dead on January 7 in Minneapolis by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. On that occasion, the musician had written: "This morning an ICE agent shot a woman three times in the face for no reason in Minneapolis. These ICE guys don't act like police officers. They're thugs. Covered faces. Is ICE the new American thug police?".

In the new piece, the focus widens to the country's overall situation. "When I look out the window, I see the biggest mess I've ever seen, right here in the United States, this great nation I believed in for decades", writes Young, describing an America adrift. What follows is a scathing, unfiltered indictment of the president and his entourage: "Today the United States is a disaster. Donald Trump is destroying America little by little with his staff of climbers, people with neither experience nor talent, closet alcoholics who beat their wives, inexperienced leaders who only know how to lie to keep Trump's falsehood in favor and hold on to their undeserved positions in his inept government, a Congress full of Republicans behaving like idiots with no conscience... Yes. He has divided us. How did we end up electing these spineless worms, with no values, no conscience, no ability to save the United States".

Young then calls for taking the Trumpian slogan seriously: "We must take Trump at his word. Let's make America great again". But, he warns, this won't be possible "as long as he tries to turn our cities into battlefields so he can void our elections through martial law and escape all accountability". The solution he points to is just one: "Something has to change this situation. We know what to do. Rise up. Peacefully, by the millions. Too many innocent people are dying".

In closing, the accusation grows even sharper: "There was no ICE before Trump. No soldiers in the streets before Trump. His every move is aimed at creating instability so he can stay in power. He knows nothing about love. He doesn't know who you are. Use your love of life, your love for others, your love for children, yours, theirs and ours. Peacefully. Now".

This isn't the first time Neil Young has lashed out against the Trump presidency. Back in August, he had already released the track “Big Crime”, an explicit denunciation of the tycoon's second term in the White House.
