THE RULES OF THE GAME

Each editor or contributing writer draws up a list of titles tied to the theme, representative of their own perspective. To encourage variety overall, we only allow one or two albums per band. The lists are collected, and the first twenty albums mentioned are assigned a score: twenty points for the one ranked first, nineteen for the next, and so on. If an album is mentioned by more than one participant, the points each of them awarded are added together. Ranking the titles starting from the one with the most points produces the final chart.
What you're reading, then, is a representation of the common ground and the range of viewpoints among Ondarock's contributors. It's not a list put together behind closed doors, with no adjustments or backroom deals. The only agreed-upon element is the set of rules above.
It's a game, and we hope the outcome will intrigue readers as much as it does the participants. For those who want to dig deeper, the individual contributors' personal charts can be a goldmine of discoveries. Happy exploring!

EDITORS' PICKS

Beth Gibbons - Lives Outgrown
With an album steeped in folk tones, Portishead chanteuse Beth Gibbons enchanted our staff and claimed the top spot in our albums chart. Second place goes to the new, highly anticipated - to the point of seeming almost unlikely - comeback of dark-rock veterans Cure. Rounding out the podium are the much younger King Hannah, with a sophomore effort that Americanizes and toughens up the indie-rock sound of their debut.

CLAUDIO FABRETTI'S FAVOURITES

Chelsea Wolfe - She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She
Sacramento's dark muse condenses her endless shades of noir into a bleak, mesmerizing liturgy, blending the metallic harshness of her sound with a new trip-hop streak inherited from the darkest chapters of Portishead and Massive Attack. Amid dense layers of fog, electronic jolts, romantic surges and powerful rhythms, the perfect gothic-rock handbook updated for the new Millennium

    READERS' FAVORITES

Cure - Songs Of A Lost World
Lending further weight to this year's winners, the readers' podium lines up with forum and staff picks alike, sharing the enthusiasm generated by the new, hotly anticipated record from the Cure, voted winner here too by a clear margin. The Fontaines D.C.'s transitional album "Romance" particularly wins over this audience as well, while King Hannah (third, for fewer first-place votes) also find room, confirming themselves as an established presence by now.
