Surprising success for Anja Plaschg, aka
Soap&Skin,
in the yearly chart of the OndaRock
editorial staff. "Lovetune For Vacuum"
is a peculiar songwriting driven by
a raw, moving voice, lashed by continuous
electronic jolts. Second place on the podium
for
Antony & The Johnsons,
third place for
Patrick Wolf.
Here's the full chart. |

GALA DROP - Gala Drop
Beyond "fourth world music". The Portuguese band throws itself into a reckless, cold-blooded fusion of Jamaican dub, bucolic tribalism, percussive minimalism, exotic suggestions, synthetic chasms and kosmische musik. The result is astonishing: there's nothing else around today that sounds quite like this.

FLAMING LIPS - Embryonic
Wayne Coyne and co. rise again with a fairy-tale, moving blockbuster, to remind the young neo-psychedelic crowd who's boss. |
COLD CAVE - Love Comes Close
Nine tracks and thirty-one minutes of lo-fi jubilation, synths blared out for all to hear, and pop grime in service of an overwhelming sound. |

On the fourth try
Patrick Wolf
hits the mark and tops the forum chart: "The Bachelor" is his most multifaceted and accomplished record. Next comes the most welcome comeback of the
Flaming Lips
with "Embryonic", restoring the proper hierarchy in psychedelic territory. Third place on the podium goes to the Italian noise-rap revelation
Uochi Toki.
Special thanks to user gigiriva.
