Nick Cave and Warren Ellis score the series based on Jo Nesbo's crime novels, “Detective Hole”

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis will compose the original score for “Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole”, a new Norwegian crime series coming to Netflix. The series, made up of nine episodes, will premiere on the streaming platform on March 26.

The collaboration between Nick Cave and Warren Ellis thus continues in noir territory: the two have already co-written numerous film scores together, from “La proposta” to “L'assassinio di Jesse James per mano del codardo Robert Ford” and “I segreti di Wind River”, developing a dark, atmospheric musical language well suited to the series' narrative world.

"Jo Nesbø's Detective Hole" is produced by Working Title and is based on the celebrated crime novels by Norwegian writer Jo Nesbø. At the heart of the story is Harry Hole, a tormented, unorthodox detective played by Tobias Santelmann, caught up in a double hunt: for a serial killer and for his longtime nemesis, the corrupt detective Tom Waaler, played by Joel Kinnaman.

Nesbø himself added: “Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are masters at creating atmosphere and tension, and their music is the perfect companion for Harry Hole's dark, enigmatic journey through the shadows of Oslo. Their music has always been a kind of soundtrack to my writing process. Having them now score Harry Hole's world feels surreal, yet at the same time completely natural.”

Created by Jo Nesbø, “Jo Nesbø’s Detective Hole” is a crime series centered on a serial killer investigation led by the iconic antihero Harry Hole. But beneath its classic crime-thriller structure, the story unfolds as a more layered drama, focused on the conflict between two police officers formally on the same side, but in reality standing on opposite sides of the law.

Over the course of the first season, Harry Hole faces his longtime nemesis, the corrupt detective Tom Waaler. Harry is a homicide investigator of extraordinary insight, but deeply marked by personal fragilities and obsessions that complicate every choice he makes. As both men move along increasingly blurred ethical lines within the justice system, Harry is forced to pursue two parallel goals: stopping a serial killer and managing to bring Waaler to justice before it's too late.

Filming on the series has officially wrapped after 113 days of shooting across 160 different locations. Below, the first images show Tobias Santelmann as Harry Hole and Joel Kinnaman as Tom Waaler, inside the protagonist's run-down apartment in Oslo.
