Be’, si può anche concordare, perché “Heavy Metal Fruit” è sicuramente un disco “massiccio”. Un disco che ha il merito, rispetto al precedente "Little Lucid Moments", di mostrare qualche direzione più precisa, qualche idea sviluppata in maniera più vigorosa, anche se la band ha il difetto di lasciarsi andare con eccessiva sicurezza al fluire della musica, senza tenere conto dei rischi di una jam hard-psichedelica tirata un po’ per le lunghe.

I Motorpsycho, riappropriatisi della loro giovinezza, tirano comunque fuori gli artigli, anche se i risultati sono quelli che sono. Con gli special guest Mathias Eick alla tromba (proveniente dai Jaga Jazzist) e Hanne Hukkelberg alla voce, il disco affida a “Starhammer” il compito di definire le sue coordinate basilari: sound potente e “metallico”, che si stempera in fraseggi ipnotici à-la “Dark Star” e che, poi, lentamente riprende quota, fino al colpo di coda lisergico.

Sia l’urgenza enfatica di “X-3 (Knuckleheads in Space)” – con sprazzi di free-jazz nella parte centrale – che le propulsioni mastodontiche di “W.B.A.T.” fanno pensare a una qualsiasi band proto-metal in gita nello spazio. "Heavy Metal Fruit" è, insomma, uno di quei dischi "perfetti" per quanti davvero non riescono ad accettare il presente del rock, rifugiandosi, a più riprese, in un passato forse fin troppo mitizzato. Va detto, comunque, che i Motorpsycho possiedono quella classe che molte delle band che si avvicinano a queste sonorità nemmeno si sognano.

Per cui, tutto già ampiamente sentito e stra-digerito, ma fa sempre un certo effetto confrontarsi con le rovinose catastrofi interstellari di "The Bombpoof Roll And Beyond" (chiedi chi erano gli Hawkwind…). Poi, però, i sentimenti si fanno da parte e la ragione chiede spiegazioni. E, allora, bisogna fare i conti con la stucchevolezza fuori luogo della ballata “Close Your Eyes” e con il gran finale  di “Gulliver´s Travails Pt. I-IV”, capace di accentuare la vena progressive del disco, ma anche di mettere in luce tutte le crepe di un’ispirazione piuttosto disidratata.

Per gli amanti del genere e per gli aficionados più irriducibili della compagine norvegese.
