Fontaines D.C. and Rosalía team up: listen to “Where Is Gone?”, the final single ahead of “Dopamine Chamber”

Fontaines D.C. have released the long-awaited new single "Where Is Gone?", recorded together with Spanish singer Rosalía. It's the latest track chosen by the Irish band to preview their fifth album "Dopamine Chamber", due out on Friday 16 October via XL Recordings. This marks the first time the group led by Grian Chatten has featured an outside voice on one of their records, marking a further step in the evolution of their musical language.

A surprise collaboration

After "Marianne" and "Tongue", Fontaines D.C. choose to reveal another facet of their new record, turning to a cinematic composition dominated by melancholy atmospheres, orchestral arrangements and an intensely theatrical dimension. Chatten's and Rosalía's voices alternate and intertwine in a duet that moves away from the post-punk rough edges of their early years, favouring more elegant, nuanced songwriting. After a solemn introduction, the track unfolds through intimate, rarefied passages, building to a chorus charged with emotional tension. The collaboration carries a particular significance for guitarist Carlos O'Connell, who in recent years has rediscovered his connection to his Spanish roots. "I've been a fan of Rosalía ever since her debut album, which I consider absolutely wonderful," the musician said. "What excited me most was the way she manages to keep a Spanish musical tradition alive, something that, on a spiritual level, felt very close to what we've tried to do with Irish music." For O'Connell, who feels he belongs to both cultures, watching the Catalan singer's artistic journey has been particularly moving: "She's an artist who keeps surprising me at every new stage of her career."

The new album “Dopamine Chamber”

Produced by James Ford, "Dopamine Chamber" arrives two years after "Romance" (2024), the album that firmly established Fontaines D.C. among the most important acts on the contemporary alternative scene. The new record, recorded between London, the English countryside and Palermo, where Chatten laid down some vocal parts in a makeshift booth built from mattresses and cushions, promises a further departure from their early guitar-driven rock, moving towards synthetic textures, colder atmospheres and vocal experimentation. Chatten himself has described the album's concept through the image of a "dopamine chamber", an imaginary space in which the songs become tools capable of altering perceptions and moods: "You walk in and we test out these mind- or mood-altering tracks on you."

The Italian shows

The album will be the fifth chapter in a discography that began with "Dogrel" (2019) and continued with "A Hero's Death" (2020), "Skinty Fia" (2022) and "Romance" (2024). During recent shows, the band has already debuted other new songs live, including "Six Shot Morning" and "Happy For You".
Meanwhile, Fontaines D.C. are gearing up to return to Italy: on 26 October they'll play an already sold-out show at Unipol Arena in Bologna, while summer 2027 will bring two further dates, on 18 June in Rome as part of Rock in Roma and on 19 June in Milan for I-Days Festival.
