Cielo e terra. Aria e magma. William vola via, lasciando aperte le porte dell'anima. Il mondo è lì. La platea è fermamente eccitata. Tre tracce. Secondo Ep post-"Untrue", post-capolavoro degli Anni Zero, post-manifesto del nuovo dubstep. "Kindred" scotta fin dal primo minuto. Brucia calore e diffonde lampi di luce, ora tenui, ora improvvisamente accecanti. Le quattro parti che compongono l'introduttiva title track propongono subito gemiti angelici lontani sovrapposti a una secca decostruzione two-step. William palpita e si disperde. Resta la desolazione. Ma spunta un'oscura speranza. Con "Street Halo" il ragazzo preferiva nascondersi ancora nell’ombra. Ora c'è da mettere la testa fuori dal guscio e saper mordere.

"Loner" è dunque cassa. Will lancia la maschera in pista. Si lascia trasportare dal battito del proprio cuore senza più dover fare i conti con personali fantasmi da nutrire. La sua è una fuga androide in scia dancefloor. Al quinto minuto si infiammano i motori prima dell'arrivo. L'ultima propulsione. La meta è raggiunta. Bisogna tornare a casa. Un lento ribollire inquieta i consueti campionamenti vocali. La notte è finita. Ma la vera apoteosi è ancora alle porte. Il terzo capitolo è quello conclusivo, ma soprattutto l'inizio (?) di un nuovo cammino.

È davvero grande il "peso" di mostrare nuova materia e nuova linfa dubstep ai contemporanei e ai posteri. Ma William Bevan ha le spalle larghe e il cuore grosso quanto una casa. Così "Ashtray Wasp" incarna tutto ciò che fa di  "Untrue" un disco importantissimo per l'evoluzione stessa della musica dubstep nel pop contemporaneo. I primi quattro minuti mostrano le ali spiegate dell'Arcangelo Will, cambio di rotta nel vuoto prima di raggiungere quota al quinto e continuare a diffondere dall'alto una scarica di orgasmi soul-step, ridotti nelle ultime battute da un ritmo più conciso, in coda magistralmente colorato seguendo l'insegnamento dell'amico Kieran.

Il cerchio deve ancora magicamente chiudersi. E "Kindred" è solo l'ennesima mutazione di un camaleonte urbano, l'ennesima conferma di un talento, l'ennesimo lampo di genio di un visionario. L'oscuro custode e il timido giullare ora vivono sotto lo stesso tetto. E non ci resta che bussare al citofono. Pena la noia.
