Come si è evoluta quella cosa chiamata Dubstep nel secondo lustro della sua esistenza? E quali sono state le intuizioni del suo producer più celebrato? Il secondo decennio del nuovo millennio si chiude con alcune domande in apparenza irrisolte. Già, perché se il fenomeno Dubstep ha deviato la propria spinta propulsiva, migrando qui e là nelle più schizzate forme dell’elettronica contemporanea, il suo arciere tenebroso ha scoccato diverse frecce dal proprio arco alla solita maniera, a metà tra la sorpresa e l’oblio. Tracce raccolte in definitiva nella presente compilation. L’occasione, del resto, è quella giusta e la mitica hyperdub non avrebbe potuto chiedere di meglio per il suo quindicesimo anniversario.

Certo, i singoli in questione sono ben noti ai più, e da “Street Halo” a “Claustro” i fan si ritroveranno dinanzi a un gustoso compendio del Burial post-capolavoro totale “Untrue“. Un’uscita che assume, dunque, i connotati del manifesto di una crescita mutata a seconda dell’esigenza e dell’umore del momento, tra fascinazioni hebdeniane (“Truant“), umori melanconici con tanto di campionamenti di Keni Burkee e del compositore giapponese Koji Kondo, battiti cadenzati alla stregua degli amici Massive Attack (“Young Death”), tetri orientalismi in proiezione Muslimgauze (“Come Down To Us”), e dulcis in fundo “Kindred“, “Loner” e “Ashtray Wasp” messe una dietro l’altra nel secondo vinile, a fungere da Saturn V spedito nel cielo grigio di una Londra sempre più distaccata da tutto.

Menzione speciale per l’ibrido house-Dubstep della sopracitata “Claustro”, che con gli otto minuti di “State Forest”, capaci di definire un paesaggio tanto deturpato quanto meravigliosamente fosco, forma l’ultimo riuscitissimo Ep da due tracce di Bevan.

In sostanza, la cernita è senza dubbio gustosissima, anche se mancano gli improbabili richiami deep-house di “Rodent” e quel miracolo garage targato Keysound (“Temple Sleeper”). Scarti opinabili, ovviamente “forzati” dall’etichetta di Kode9, per un insieme che trascina inesorabilmente con sé la nostalgia di un’epopea gloriosa.
