A seguito dei due Ep pubblicati a sorpresa nel corso dell’anno, preceduti dal remix omaggiante il grandissimo e seminale Goldie a cui è seguito un ulteriore remix di “Deep Summer” di Mønic, Burial torna a presentarsi in questo caldissimo 2017 preannunciando come un normale producer (ebbene, sì!) l’arrivo del suo nuovo Ep da due tracce, intitolate “Pre Dawn” e “Indoors”. Stavolta, la vera notizia non è l’improvvisa apparizione del Nostro, bensì il suo momentaneo passaggio alla Nonplus di Alexander Green, aka Boddika. Una label più giovane e diversa come appeal e stile dall’ormai storica Hyperdub.

Ciò nonostante, Burial ha deciso di rimanere in parte fedele a sé stesso e al contempo di mettere in riga due bombe nucleari che per certi versi assecondano la sua follia, il suo distacco da tutto e tutti; mentre per altri versi lo proiettano su nuovi binari, nuove coordinate che alla fine del tunnel ci conducono in una sorta di giungla cibernetica in cui spunta supina una selvaggina hardcore da paura.

E’ quindi un Burial cattivissimo, selvaggio, cinematico, disturbante, coatto, quello che traspare nell’introduttiva title track. ll Burial che proprio non t’aspetti. Certo, le pause desolanti a metà del brano e le oscure frattaglie in coda sono da tempo immemore parte integrante del suo marchio di fabbrica, ma la ripartenza acidissima e viperina che ne consegue esalta e spiazza oltre ogni misura. Nell’altra metà del piatto, troviamo invece un arricchimento sonoro nei primissimi istanti decisamente più cinematografico. Ma è solo una fugace illusione. Pochi attimi e spunta una cassa sfibrata e pulsante con voce minacciosa e ripartenza house assolutamente magnifica.

La faccenda si amplifica con lo scorrere del tempo e l’andazzo killer non cessa fino a quando non subentra il solito stop&go dal piglio malinconico tutto breaks e sfarfallii cinetici. Insomma, con questo nuovo ed eccitante Ep siamo dinanzi a una sorta di capovolgimento di fronte dal guizzo industrial da cui è letteralmente impossibile fuggire. Qualcosa di deviato e inconsueto. Di certo, al momento non è lecito sapere se tutto questo possa fungere da preavviso a ulteriori sterzate. Viste le varie svolte dell’anno, e i cambi di direzione attuati, con Burial c’è da aspettarsi veramente di tutto. Nel frattempo, non resta che “leccarsi i baffi” e godersi a tutto volume queste due perle. Il futuro può attendere.
