U2: 2027 world tour announced. Listen to the new track “The Greatest Show On Earth” featuring Brian Eno

15-10-2026

U2 are heading back to the stadiums. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. have announced “Carnaval De Luz presents: The Greatest Show On Earth”, the new world tour kicking off on February 23, 2027 in Mexico City before moving through South America, Europe and North America. Six shows across Mexico, Brazil and Argentina have been confirmed so far, while the European and North American dates will be announced in the coming weeks. Also on the cards is the band's return to their native Ireland, with details still being finalized.
Produced by Live Nation Global Touring, the tour will accompany the release of “Carnaval De Luz”, the Irish band's sixteenth studio album, due out on November 13. It will be U2's first proper stadium tour since the end of the “The Joshua Tree Tour”, which wrapped up on December 15, 2019 in Mumbai, at the end of a run of shows that drew close to three million spectators in total.
For the opening date in Mexico City on February 23, Beck has also been announced as the opening act.

The world tour

“The greatest show on earth? Well, now that's a challenge. It's a challenge aimed at ourselves as much as at anyone else, to try to give everyone the best night of their lives,” Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. said in a joint statement. “A bit of spectacle, a bit of shamanism, a riot of color, unrestrained guitar, bass and drums, and melodies that stay with you. Because if the audience is there, we'll be there for sure.”
The announcement comes in the year marking U2's fiftieth anniversary, celebrated this past September 25 with a special surprise performance on Grafton Street, in the heart of Dublin. A return to their roots for a band that, over five decades, has repeatedly reshaped the language of live spectacle, from the groundbreaking “Zoo TV Tour” of the early '90s to the recent immersive experience of “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere”, the 40-show Las Vegas residency.
The new show promises to restore the collective dimension of the great stadium concerts, blending technological innovation with emotional engagement, in a setlist spanning the band's entire catalog. Here are the first dates of the 2027 world tour.

“The Greatest Show On Earth”, the new single with Brian Eno

Alongside the tour announcement, U2 have also released “The Greatest Show On Earth”, the third single taken from “Carnaval De Luz”. Co-written with Brian Eno, the song tells the story of two lovers striving to preserve mutual trust and their relationship with faith. The video, directed by Anton Corbijn and shot in the California desert, adds a satirical twist: U2 are portrayed as a kind of religious cult in which, paradoxically, it's the women who are left to do all the hard work.

The new album “Carnaval De Luz”

The new album, produced by Jacknife Lee and recorded across several locations, will feature twelve tracks tackling themes such as spirituality, friendship, freedom and resistance to oppressive forces. Musically, the band promise a return to their most experimental seasons, alternating elaborate compositions like “The Greatest Show On Earth”, “Glorify” and “Midnight Sunshine” with more immediate moments, including “Silencio”, a two-minute-35-second burst of surf-punk.
The record also continues a creative path launched with the two six-track EPs “Days Of Ash” and “Easter Lily“, released as surprise drops in early 2026. All three releases share imagery tied to the liturgical calendar: Carnival, symbol of vitality and the celebration of the flesh, precedes Lenten renunciation and subsequent Easter rebirth.
Ideally linking the three works is “Torn”, the album's closing track, a country duet between Bono and Dolly Parton, which turned out to be the American singer's final vocal recording. Written by U2 together with Parton herself and Johnny McDaid, the song deals with the theme of broken family ties. Daniel Lanois contributes pedal steel guitar.
There are numerous other guests and collaborators: Brian Eno takes part in the writing and synths on “Go (Carnaval De Luz)”, “The Greatest Show On Earth” and “Can't Stop Us Now”; Martin Garrix co-wrote “Glorify”, while Ryan Tedder provides additional production on “Silencio”.

Also previewed already are “Street Of Dreams”, the project's first single, and “Silencio” itself, both accompanied by official music videos.
“Carnaval De Luz” will be released in several formats, including standard vinyl and CD, limited deluxe editions, colored vinyl and digital download. Pre-orders are available on the album's official website.
