Blondie are back with a new long-term project. Titled "High Noon", it will be released on February 26, 2027 via BMG. It's the New York band's twelfth studio album, and more importantly their first collection of new material in nine years, since "Pollinator" (2017). The announcement comes alongside the release of the lead single, "Spectral Eyes", already available on all digital platforms.
"High Noon" promises to be a work of profound emotional and historical significance: it represents the final recording sessions of Clem Burke, the band's longtime drummer and co-founder, who passed away before the album's completion. Conceived without any awareness of its tragic outcome, the record has become, in the process, the final testament of one of the longest-running and most iconic rhythmic and creative partnerships in the history of rock and new wave.
The lead single, "Spectral Eyes", features an exceptional contribution from Johnny Marr, who also plays guitar on the track. The former Smiths guitarist is just one of the many high-profile guests involved in the project. The album confirms the band's longstanding knack for bridging generations and different musical languages: the credits also include Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Zach Condon (Beirut) and the vocal duo of Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig (Lucius). The result promises to replicate Blondie's winning formula, blending punk urgency, dance impulses, rock guitars and Latin inflections.
Recording sessions began in 2022 in New York under the guidance of producer John Congleton (who also helmed "Pollinator"). Most of the tracks were cut live, with the musicians playing together in the same room, before being handed over to David Wrench for additional production and final mixing. Commenting on the nature of the record, Debbie Harry said: "This album is classic Blondie: an amalgam of all our different influences and eras turned into something new. It's music that I feel is deeply rooted in the present, shaped by who we are and how we live now". The full tracklist follows below.
