There are still several months to go before Sanremo week kicks off, but the 2027 Festival has already started fueling rumors and speculation about names. Ever since Stefano De Martino was announced live on television as Carlo Conti's successor as host and artistic director, work on the event has never stopped. De Martino himself has explained that he has been engaged in the project since last February, between listening to songs, defining the rules and making first contacts with the artists.
Not all the rumors circulating so far have been confirmed, but some elements already give a sense of the shape of the 77th edition: a smaller, younger lineup, a different structure for the evenings, and greater attention to the international dimension.
Dates and the new format
Sanremo 2027 will take place at the Teatro Ariston from February 16 to 20. The dates were announced by the artistic director himself through his social media channels.
The first novelty concerns the distribution of performances. On Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 February, all the contestants are expected to perform their song. The artists would therefore be involved in each of the five evenings, doing away with the system of alternating performances adopted in some previous editions.
The cover songs night would be moved up to Thursday 18 February. Each singer will be able to perform an Italian or international song, accompanied by one or more guests. As in recent editions, the cover songs competition should have its own separate ranking, without directly affecting the Festival's final outcome.
The "performance night" and the choice for Eurovision
The most significant novelty should arrive on Friday, February 19th with the introduction of the "performance night." Artists will perform their competing song again, but will be able to change the arrangement and enrich the performance with dancers, stage sets and guests. It's during this very evening that the Italian representative for the Eurovision Song Contest should be chosen. Participation in the European competition would thus be separated from winning Sanremo, giving artists the chance to present an entry specifically designed for the international stage.
Saturday, February 20th will instead return to the traditional format, with the final and the announcement of the winner of the 77th edition. The composition of the juries, the weight of the televote and the various voting mechanisms have yet to be defined, and will be outlined in the official rules.
Sanremo Giovani returns to the main competition
Another change concerns "Sanremo Giovani." De Martino reportedly intends to revive a format already used during the artistic direction of Claudio Baglioni and Amadeus: the winner of the selection, announced in December during "Sarà Sanremo," would go straight into the main lineup, without a separate category for the Newcomers.
According to some rumors, relaunched by Quotidiano Nazionale, the selection phase could be hosted between September and December within "Affari Tuoi," the Rai 1 show hosted by De Martino himself. This is, however, a hypothesis that has not yet been confirmed.
The announcement of the contestants could come on November 29th during the Tg1 news broadcast, or on December 4th in a special episode of "Affari Tuoi." The song titles, meanwhile, would be revealed later on, during "Sarà Sanremo."
Possible contestants
The new artistic director is reportedly considering a competition with around 24 contestants, fewer than in recent editions. The goal would be to build a more agile, contemporary Festival, with a lower average age and a significant presence of artists from the pop, urban, rap and independent scenes.
The first group of possible contestants includes Mahmood, Elodie, Blanco, Emma Marrone, Achille Lauro, Tananai, Madame, Alfa and The Kolors.
Among the names from the new generation being mentioned are Lucio Corsi, Settembre, Emma Nolde, Venerus, Samurai Jay, Sayf, Faccianuova and Tutti Fenomeni.
Great attention would reportedly be given to rap and the urban scene. Among the names circulating most persistently are Tedua, Kid Yugi, Geolier and Salmo, as well as Nu Genea and La Niña. Another possible headliner is Anna, among the most successful Italian artists of recent years. The rapper has recently expressed interest in Eurovision, a statement that has inevitably fueled rumors of a possible Ariston debut.
Also under consideration are reportedly Tiziano Ferro and Belen Rodriguez. The latter, according to some rumors, is said to be weighing the idea of presenting an original song at the selections. Her potential debut as a singer would inevitably carry major media significance given her past relationship with De Martino, but for now the hypothesis has received no confirmation.
Possible guests: from Måneskin to Bruno Mars
The rumors also concern the guests. One of the main goals would reportedly be to reunite Måneskin on the Ariston stage, while De Martino's Italian dream remains Vasco Rossi, possibly asked to open the Festival. Among the other names mentioned is Ultimo.
For the international scene, the most notable suggestion points to Bruno Mars. De Martino has confirmed that he is already working on foreign guests, without offering more precise details.
For now the picture inevitably remains provisional. The first Sanremo under Stefano De Martino, however, seems to be heading in a fairly clear direction: fewer contestants, greater generational turnover, more room for spectacle, and an even closer tie to Eurovision.
