Pink Floyd: previously unseen footage of a 1977 concert surfaces online – Video

20-01-2026

Ten minutes of footage straight from the heart of one of the most imposing tours in rock history. Previously unseen live footage of Pink Floyd has surfaced online, filmed during a North American leg of the 1977 tour, the year of the monumental "In The Flesh" tour.

The material was uploaded to YouTube by the Pink Floyd Research Group, a collective of enthusiasts specializing in the recovery, restoration and cataloguing of bootleg recordings related to the British band. The footage, roughly ten minutes long in total, comes from the concert held on May 7, 1977 at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California.

In the video, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason can be seen performing three classics from their repertoire: "Wish You Were Here", "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" and "Money". A particularly valuable document, both for its visual quality and for the rarity of the material, given the technical limitations of amateur formats at the time.

Watch the video below.

The footage opens with an explanatory title card clarifying the philological work carried out on the original material: "Everything you are about to see contains all the available material present on the original reels. 8mm and Super 8 are limited formats, with only a few minutes per reel or cartridge, and most people used those few minutes to capture their favorite or most interesting moments. We haven't cut anything".

In the description, the Pink Floyd Research Group stresses the exceptional nature of the footage, calling it the first true good-quality film of the 1977 performance of "Wish You Were Here". Also highlighted are the detailed shots of the closing sections of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", the presence on stage of Snowy White and Dick Parry, Gilmour's slide solo, the entire vocal section of part 7, the footage projected onto the screen, Parry's full sax part on "Money", as well as numerous close-ups of Gilmour. A document that adds an important piece to Pink Floyd's visual memory, offering an authentic glimpse into one of the most spectacular and tense phases of their live history.

Speaking of the Pink Floyd saga, on February 26 "At Pompeii MCMLXXII" arrives on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, a restored edition of Pink Floyd's celebrated concert film, which returned to cinemas during 2025. It is a philological and technological recovery of one of the most iconic audiovisual documents in rock history.

Filmed in October 1971 among the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, the film documents the first live performance ever staged in that location. A concert with no audience, suspended in time, capturing the band at a stage of full creative transformation. Adding further significance to the picture are the behind-the-scenes sequences shot at Abbey Road Studios, where the group was taking its first steps toward the making of "The Dark Side Of The Moon".

The restoration was carried out starting from a 4K scan of the original material, with the stated aim of preserving its visual identity. Colour, contrast and definition were optimised frame by frame, through manual work that kept the original grain intact, avoiding any artificial-looking effect. The result is a more stable, more detailed image that nonetheless remains true to the aesthetic of the 1972 film.

On the audio side, the edition stands out for a new home-entertainment mix curated by Steven Wilson. Available in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo, the remastering work aims to expand the depth and separation of the sound layers without distorting the balance and character of the original.
