Pink Floyd: Roger Waters reinterprets "Comfortably Numb" with Palestinian artist Mona Miari – Watch the video

Roger Waters has created a reinterpretation of “Comfortably Numb” together with Palestinian artist Mona Miari. The track, originally included in 1979 on the Pink Floyd concept album “The Wall”, is reworked here through an interplay between the original musical arrangement and passages in Arabic.

The project was launched with the aim of drawing international attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to the organizers, this new version seeks to reframe the song's core theme — the rejection of alienation and apathy — within today's geopolitical landscape, marked by a conflict that continues to claim lives despite international mediation efforts.

Listen below to Roger Waters and Mona Miari's reworking of "Comfortably Numb".

The initiative fits into Waters' expressive stance, as he has taken very clear public positions on the Palestinian question over the years, going so far as to describe what the civilian population has suffered as "genocide". Within this context lies a symbolic declaration as well: his wish to perform "The Wall" in Palestine "when it is free", as a closing gesture of his artistic journey and as an affirmation of rights and equality in the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean.

Pink Floyd will release the compilation "8-Tracks" (Sony Music) on June 5th, a selection of eight songs recorded between 1971 and 1979, now reorganized into a new sonic sequence. The project was curated by Steven Wilson, who worked on the original multitracks, adding sound effects to build a continuous listening flow in keeping with the band's typical narrative approach.

The tracklist is split into two sides:

Side A

  • One Of These Days
  • Wot’s… Uh The Deal
  • Money
  • Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2

Side B

  • Wish You Were Here
  • Time
  • Comfortably Numb
  • Pigs On The Wing (in its full-length version, originally released on the Stereo 8 cartridge of "Animals" and featured here exclusively)

The compilation draws on six key albums from the band's discography: “Meddle” (1971), “Obscured By Clouds” (1972), “The Dark Side Of The Moon” (1973), “Wish You Were Here” (1975), “Animals” (1977) and “The Wall” (1979).

“8-Tracks” documents Pink Floyd's fully mature phase, coming after the psychedelic season tied to Syd Barrett and the band's early experiments, highlighting a now fully structured language balancing song-form and conceptual architecture.

The tracklist features instantly recognisable classics such as “Money” and “Wish You Were Here”, alongside earlier pieces predating the definitive leap in popularity that came with “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, such as “One Of These Days” from “Meddle”.

The album will close with an exclusive full-length version of “Pigs On The Wing”, until now only available on the 8-track cartridge edition of “Animals” released in 1977. “8-Tracks” thus stands as a synthesis of one of the most fertile periods in Pink Floyd's output, condensing the artistic trajectory of those years into compact form.

Steven Wilson stepped in to give the project a unified shape, rearranging the sequence of tracks using sound effects drawn from the original multitracks, so as to build a continuous listening flow fully in tune with the band's narrative and sonic aesthetic.

The release is expected on vinyl, CD and digital formats.

The announcement comes after a particularly favorable period for the band on the publishing and commercial front. The 50th-anniversary reissue of "Wish You Were Here" entered the Top 10 in several countries and gave Pink Floyd their second number 1 of 2025 in the UK, Germany, Italy and Switzerland, fifty years after the album's original chart-topping run. A few months earlier, the theatrical re-release of "Pink Floyd At Pompeii – MCMLXXII" had also posted Top 10 box-office results, while the accompanying soundtrack had put the band back at the top of the UK charts for the first time since "The Endless River", released in 2014.

But that's not the only new Pink Floyd release on the way. Coming in April, in fact, is a document that has so far remained on the fringes of the official catalog. For the first time on vinyl and CD comes "Pink Floyd Live From The Los Angeles Sports Arena, April 26th, 1975", a recording of one of the five shows the English band played in Los Angeles in April 1975, during the "Wish You Were Here" tour.

The release is planned as a limited first edition: a four-LP clear vinyl box set for Record Store Day on April 18th, followed by a double-CD version on April 24th.

The concert captures a crucial transitional phase. It opens with "Raving And Drooling" and "You've Got To Be Crazy", early versions of what would go on to become "Sheep" and "Dogs" respectively on "Animals" (1977). Right after, the "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" suite (split into two parts) frames "Have A Cigar", keeping the direct link to "Wish You Were Here" intact.

The second part is taken up by the complete performance of "The Dark Side Of The Moon", presented as a single unbroken block, following what was by then an established practice in the band's live shows of that era. The final encore is given over to "Echoes", a further nod to the group's earlier period.

The audio comes from the celebrated recordings of Mike Millard, a central figure in the history of Los Angeles bootlegging in the 1970s, known for the strikingly high quality of his live tapes. Restoration and remastering were handled by Steven Wilson, who worked on the original tapes to bring them up to contemporary standards.

These recordings had already surfaced in the "Wish You Were Here 50" box set, released in 2025 and a UK chart-topper, but this marks the first standalone physical release of the concert.
