On February 26, “At Pompeii MCMLXXII“, the restored edition of the celebrated Pink Floyd concert film that returned to cinemas in 2025, arrives on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. It's a philologically and technologically faithful recovery of one of the most iconic audiovisual documents in rock history.
Filmed in October 1971 among the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pompeii, the film documents the first live performance ever staged in that location. A concert with no audience, suspended in time, capturing the band at a stage of full creative transformation. Adding further significance to the picture are the behind-the-scenes sequences shot at Abbey Road Studios, where the group was taking its first steps toward the making of "The Dark Side Of The Moon".
The restoration was carried out starting from a 4K scan of the original material, with the stated aim of preserving its visual identity. Colour, contrast and definition were optimised frame by frame, through manual work that kept the original grain intact, avoiding any artificial-looking effect. The result is a more stable, more detailed image that nonetheless remains true to the aesthetic of the 1972 film.
On the audio side, the edition stands out for a new home-entertainment mix curated by Steven Wilson. Available in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 and stereo, the remastering work aims to expand the depth and separation of the sound layers without distorting the balance and character of the original.
