Interpol are back with a new album. Four years on from “The Other Side Of Make-Believe“, the New York band has announced the release of “This Mirror Weighs A Ton”, due out August 28 on Partisan Records. Alongside the announcement, the group has shared two tracks previewing the album, offering a first taste of their new creative direction: the title track and “See Out Loud”, which you can listen to below.
For their eighth studio effort, Paul Banks and co. chose to collaborate with Andrew Wyatt, a producer who has previously worked with artists such as Rosalía and Charli XCX, while mixing duties were handed to David Fridmann, known for his work with MGMT and Sleater-Kinney.
Recorded at Wyatt's studio on Manhattan's Lower East Side, the album also marks a symbolic return to their roots for Interpol, who hadn't made a record in New York in over a decade. Musically, “This Mirror Weighs a Ton” expands the band's traditional vocabulary, introducing string and horn arrangements, more elaborate vocal harmonies, acoustic guitars and experimental sound design touches, while still holding onto the rhythmic drive and melancholic atmosphere that have defined their identity since the beginning.
