Interpol: new album and new live drummer announced. Two Italian dates in July

12-03-2026

Interpol have announced a new album is on the way. The New York band is working on a new record, already recorded with drummer Sam Fogarino's contribution. The musician, however, won't be able to take part in the upcoming shows: he's still recovering from the cervical spine surgery he underwent in 2023, an operation that had already forced him to miss some recent live dates.

For the upcoming live shows, drums duties will be handled by Urian Hackney, a musician previously seen alongside Iggy Pop, Rough Francis and The Armed.

In a message posted on social media, the band informed fans of the situation: “We're happy to tell you that new music is on the way. We can't wait to share it with you. Sam wrote and played on the new record with us, but he's not able to join us on tour right now. In the meantime, we're honored to announce that Urian Hackney will be joining us on drums. Check out what he does – it's incredible. Stay tuned for updates.”

Among the comments on the Instagram post was one from Hackney himself, who wrote to Fogarino: “Farò del mio meglio alle pelli per onorarti, brother”.

Meanwhile, Interpol are busy with a series of shows across South and North America. In May the tour will continue in Oceania, while in July the band will return to Europe. Two Italian dates are set: July 15 at Visarno Arena in Florence, as an opening act for My Chemical Romance, and the following day, July 16, in Bologna.

In November the band will head back to Europe once again for a co-headlining tour with Bloc Party.
