U2 release new track: listen to "Fireflies" with Martin Garrix

24-07-2026

U2 are back with a new single. Just weeks after the release of "Street Of Dreams", the Irish band have released "Fireflies", made together with Dutch DJ and producer Martin Garrix.
The track premiered on July 17 during Garrix's closing set at Tomorrowland Belgium, where The Edge unexpectedly joined him on stage to perform it live. The following night, the producer played "Fireflies" again as the finale of his Quebec City concert in Canada.
The collaboration comes as both Martin Garrix and U2 are working on new albums expected by the end of the year, although it hasn't yet been confirmed whether "Fireflies" will be part of either project. Listen to "Fireflies" below.

The song boasts a long list of musicians involved. The guitarists include The Edge, Martin Garrix, Mark Otten, Manuel Gardner Fernandes and Duncan Stewart, while on drums are Larry Mullen, Jacknife Lee, Duncan Stewart and Bram Van Den Berg. The latter is the drummer who replaced Mullen during U2's residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023-2024, while the Irish musician was out recovering from surgery. It was actually Martin Garrix who introduced Van Den Berg to the band. Speaking about the single, Garrix explained: "'Fireflies' has a really unique atmosphere and it's a special song we started working on six summers ago. It was electrifying and surreal to finally be able to premiere it at Tomorrowland with The Edge. I'd already worked with Bono and The Edge before, but collaborating with the whole band let me feel their chemistry and understand why U2 are what they are. They're amazing friends and collaborators, and it was a real honor to work with them again."

The Edge also expressed his enthusiasm: "Martin and I have known each other for a long time, and whenever we get together there's a genuine spirit of adventure. Playing 'Fireflies' for the first time at Tomorrowland, in front of one of the most passionate festival crowds in the world, was an incredibly intense feeling... in fact, maybe I even enjoyed it a bit too much. It reminded me why I love performing outdoors: that's where I really feel limitless."
The single's artwork combines two photographs: one of U2, taken by Kurt Iswarienko during a concert in São Paulo in 2017, and an image of Martin Garrix likely taken in 2023. The artwork is credited to Jordy Aarts, graphic designer and art director for the Dutch producer.

In recent days U2 released the first single from their new album, "Street Of Dreams". Produced by Jacknife Lee, the track delivers the unmistakable U2 sound crafted by Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., who will celebrate the band's fiftieth anniversary this September. The video for the track was shot in May in Mexico City, where the band also attended the final of the Street Child World Cup 2026 tournament at Parque Ecológico Lago de Texcoco. Filming near Plaza Santo Domingo drew a huge crowd despite bad weather, which also caused a generator to fail. A local family ended up hosting the four band members at their home so the shoot could be finished from the balcony.

The arrival of "Street Of Dreams" confirms a different strategy from the one adopted in recent months. When the two EPs came out, the band had made clear that the real album would follow later, with a more traditional promotional campaign. "We're in the studio, still working on a noisy, chaotic, 'unreasonably colourful' album to play live. We'll try to put together something more spectacular and over-the-top down the line to remind the rest of the world that we still exist," Bono had written.
