U2: watch the video for new single "Streets Of Dreams", the first taste of the new album

07-07-2026

After weeks of delays and rumors, the moment has finally come for "Street Of Dreams", the new single by U2. The track, originally expected in mid-June, will be released today, July 7, at 6pm (Italian time), marking the new chapter in the run-up to the Dublin band's next album.
Produced by Jacknife Lee, the song delivers the unmistakable U2 sound crafted by Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., who in September will celebrate the band's fiftieth anniversary. The video was shot in May in Mexico City, where the band also took part in the final of the Street Child World Cup 2026 tournament at Parque Ecològico Lago de Texcoco. Filming near Plaza Santo Domingo drew a huge crowd despite bad weather, which also caused a generator to break down. A local family ended up hosting the four band members at their home so the shoot could be finished from the balcony.

The wait had already begun back in May, when Bono and co. were spotted in Mexico City filming the video. In the following days the band shared a few snippets on social media, fuelling fans' expectations. "Street Of Dreams" follows the surprise EPs "Easter Lily" and "Days Of Ash", released in spring as a preview of the new album project.
The single's release already seemed imminent on June 12th, with the idea of riding the wave of the football World Cup as a promotional showcase. The date was later pushed back to June 19th, while what appeared to be the official cover began circulating on social media: the four band members, dressed elegantly, emerging from the sea on a beach. The image, however, vanished within a few hours along with every reference to the release, suggesting an unexplained postponement.

In recent days the promotional machine has started up again. The same photograph reappeared as the band's official profile picture, accompanied by a series of teasers and a short audio clip from the studio. "All the roads point to the streets of dreams", reads the caption of the video posted on social media, right up to the final announcement of the single's release. What remains unclear is whether the release will also come with the announcement of the title and date of the new album, expected in the fall, coinciding with U2's fiftieth anniversary.
The arrival of "Street Of Dreams" confirms a different strategy from the one adopted in recent months. When the two EPs were released, the band had made clear that the real album would come later, backed by a more traditional promotional campaign. "We're in the studio, still working on an album that's noisy, chaotic and 'unreasonably colorful' to play live. We'll try to put together something more spectacular and over-the-top down the line to remind the rest of the world that we still exist", Bono had written.

On the live front, meanwhile, rumors about the 2027 tour keep piling up. According to reports circulating in recent months, the band is said to already be working on a long stadium tour that would also stop in Italy, alongside the UK, Germany and Ireland, with four shows planned at Croke Park. The same sources also suggest the tour could run through 2028.
