Paul McCartney announces “Home To Us”, the first official duet of his career with Ringo Starr

Paul McCartney has announced the release of "Home To Us", the first official duet of his career with Ringo Starr. The track will be available from May 8th and is the second single taken from "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane", the new album due out on May 29th. The announcement was made by McCartney himself during a special fan event held on May 5th at the historic Abbey Road Studios. For the occasion, fifty guests were given an exclusive preview listen to the album directly in Studio Two, while Paul shared details and anecdotes about the new recordings.

Following the first single "Days We Left Behind", "Home To Us" marks a particular moment in the two former Beatles' long artistic history. The track actually grew out of a drum part Ringo recorded at the request of McCartney and producer Andrew Watt. It's also the only track on the album featuring a guest drummer, since Paul personally played most of the instruments himself, echoing the approach of his 1970 solo debut "McCartney".

The track also features Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri on backing vocals. McCartney explained that the idea behind the song revolves around the shared roots he has with Ringo and the Liverpool of their youth. The lyrics depict a tough but familiar environment, inspired by Starr's memories of the Dingle neighbourhood.

Paul revealed that he wrote the song with Ringo's voice directly in mind. After an initial mix-up over who would sing which part, the two decided to turn the track into a proper duet, trading off verses. "We'd never done that before," McCartney explained.

"The Boys Of Dungeon Lane" will be McCartney's first solo album in over five years. The record is being presented as one of the most autobiographical and introspective works of his career, focusing on the years of his personal and musical formation before the explosion of Beatlemania, amid family memories and his first experiences with John Lennon and George Harrison.
