Sulla scia del successo del terzo capitolo della serie dei “McCartney”, Sir Paul ne approfitta per rilasciare nuove versioni raccolte in “McCartney III Imagined”. L’ex-Fab Four – eterno fanciullo – non si circonda di altri rinomati coetanei, ma opta per colleghi più giovani e “moderni”. “McCartney III Imagined” offre in primis, soprattutto per chi se la fosse persa, la possibilità di riascoltare le produzioni originali, e magari fare la conoscenza di nomi non ancora celebri in Italy (Dominic Fike, Khruangbin), ammirando poi come se la sono cavata con la musica dell’autore alcuni pesi massimi provenienti da generi e scene diverse.

La tracklist viene reimpostata per miscelare al meglio le rivisitazioni, i remix e i featuring con gli ospiti, che tolgono ai brani quella genuina aura casalinga e “tuttofare” tipica dei “McCartney”, portandoli in dimensioni diverse. Nella versione fisica del disco è presente anche un nome extra-musicale, ovvero l’attore Idris Elba, l’Ispettore Luther dell’omonima serie e Stringer Bell di “The Wire“, da anni citato come uno dei papabili nuovi James Bond, il quale negli anni non ha disdegnato qualche uscita nel mondo della musica come dee-jay.

“McCartney III Imagined” parte con l’approccio strumentale di Beck in “Find My Way”, per procedere verso i passaggi più riusciti, ovvero quelli dove più si sente la firma dell’ospite. Phoebe Bridgers fa sua come meglio non si potrebbe “Seize The Day”, mentre Josh Homme porta “Lavatory Lil” tra gli scorci sonori più avvolgenti della sua recente production.

Riguardo i remix, spiccano i cori femminili e il bell’assolo di St. Vincent in “Women And Wives” e l’EOB remix (ovvero di Ed O’Brien dei Radiohead) di una “Slidin’” ancora più heavy.

Con un piccolo aiuto di amici e colleghi, “McCartney III Imagined” è l’ennesimo ascolto coinvolgente e di qualità sfornato da Macca, chiuso come meglio non si potrebbe con l’ipnotico viaggio di dieci minuti organizzato da 3D per “Deep Deep Feeling”.
