The best singles of the month

From Anna Calvi to Paul McCartney, from Tori Amos to Foo Fighters: the most interesting new releases

PAUL MCCARTNEY – DAYS WE LEFT BEHIND

Paul McCartney announces the release of “The Boys Of Dungeon Lane”, due out on May 29. It's the eighteenth solo album from the former Beatle, a work that presents itself as a layered reflection on personal memories that have so far stayed on the margins of his public story. Ahead of the album's release comes Macca's new single, “Days We Left Behind” (you can listen to it below).

FOO FIGHTERS – “YOUR FAVOURITE TOY”

The Foo Fighters are back with a new track and have announced a streaming show. The band has released “Caught In The Echo”, the third single from the upcoming album “Your Favorite Toy”, due out on April 24.

The track opens with a vocal line from Dave Grohl that immediately sets an unstable, visionary mood: “This is just a test on a broken broadcast system…”. It's an opening that suggests a more fragmented, reflective tone compared to the previous singles, “Asking For A Friend” and the title track.

TORI AMOS – “SHUSH”

Tori Amos returns with a new track from “In Times Of Dragons”, the concept album announced for the coming months. The song is called “Shush” and expands on the thematic framework already introduced by the previous single “Stronger Together”. After that opening episode, which also featured her daughter's vocal contribution, “Shush” pushes further into the project's narrative and symbolic dimension. At its center is a fictionalized version of Amos herself, imagined as the wife of an authoritarian, power-hungry billionaire, a key figure for reading the album's political subtext. In presenting the track, Amos describes this character as a synthesis of contemporary tensions: an economic elite that views democratic institutions as subordinate to its own interests and looks with suspicion on the right to vote. The reference is to a drift toward feudal-style models of power, today disguised by technological modernity but rooted in ancient logic. Listen to “Shush” below.

MUSE – “BE WITH YOU”

Muse have announced their new album “The WOW! Signal”, their tenth studio effort, due out this summer. “The WOW! Signal” will be released on June 26 via Warner Records and follows up on 2022's “Will Of The People”. Accompanying the announcement is the new single “Be With You”, the project's first taste. The track opens with a churchy-sounding organ before developing over tight electronic textures and building to an energetic, direct guitar payoff. On the vocal line, Matt Bellamy sings: “It seems my light's been swallowed up, I've used up every ounce of luck/ I need to leap into the fire/ Find a higher power, and reach for something new”. The track comes with a cinematic official video starring Ella Balinska, directed by Nico Paolillo: you can watch it below.

ANNA CALVI – “IS THIS ALL THERE IS“

Anna Calvi announces the EP “Is This All There Is?”, a project featuring Laurie Anderson, Iggy Pop, Perfume Genius and Matt Berninger of The National. The title track, made together with Berninger, precedes the album's release: an intense duet in which the two voices alternate and intertwine, bringing out the song's emotional depth. The song was originally written for Joanna Hogg's film “The Souvenir Part II”, but had never been released. In its new version it becomes a reflection on the courage to keep questioning the meaning of existence. “Matt's voice has such an epic, almost ancient quality that it felt perfect for a song asking such a huge existential question,” Anna Calvi noted. “We're both searching for answers, together yet somehow always apart, which I find beautiful. He gives the song an intimacy I could never have imagined.”
