"Banned on the run": with this (brilliant) headline, British magazine Far Out reports that Paul McCartney was temporarily banned from Reddit over the weekend, following a post published after his recent shows in Los Angeles.
Fresh off two sold-out nights at the Fonda Theatre on 27 and 28 March, Far Out reports that McCartney had reactivated his profile to share some images from the shows on his official subreddit. In the message posted after the first date, the artist explained the no-phones policy at the concert and invited fans to keep a memento of the event through a selection of photographs.
The post included a Dropbox link to a collection of images, along with an invitation to share them on social media using the hashtag "PaulRocksTheFonda". However, the content was quickly removed from the platform and, for a few hours, the account itself became inaccessible. It was later restored, though the post remains deleted to this day.
The Reddit account had already been used by the former Beatle back in 2020 for an AMA session tied to the promotion of the album "McCartney III", before staying dormant until now.
The two nights at the Fonda drew a host of major music names, including Ringo Starr, Stevie Nicks, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo and John Mayer. According to Setlist.fm, McCartney offered setlists spanning his entire career, including Beatles classics such as "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be", alongside songs from his solo years and his time with Wings.
No preview track, however, from the new album "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane", out May 29th.
In the days prior, Paul McCartney had released the single "Days We Left Behind", an autobiographical track centred on memories of his youth in Liverpool (you can listen to it below).
Speaking about the song, McCartney said: "For me this is a song of memory. The title of the album, 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane', comes from a line in this song. I was thinking exactly about that, about the days I've left behind, and I often wonder if I'm writing about the past, but then I think: how could you write about anything else? They're mostly memories of Liverpool. There's a central part about John and Forthlin Road, which is the street I lived on. Dungeon Lane is nearby. I was in a place called Speke, a working-class area. We really didn't have much, but it didn't matter, because everyone around was great and you didn't even notice you had little."
Preorders for the album are already available here. Here's the full tracklist for "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane":
"The Boys Of Dungeon Lane", the eighteenth solo album from the former Beatle, gathers episodes and images tied to his formative years, with a retrospective gaze that zeroes in on decisive moments in the shaping of his artistic identity. The songs portray Paul in a sincere, vulnerable and deeply reflective light, as he writes with rare candour about his childhood in postwar Liverpool, his parents' tenacity, and his early adventures alongside George Harrison and John Lennon, long before the world had ever heard of Beatlemania. Alongside this autobiographical core, there's also room for new love songs, a sign of a songwriting practice that keeps moving between intimacy and narrative ambition.
With "The Boys Of Dungeon Lane", McCartney returns to ground he's explored before, but with a more explicitly personal edge: a work that weaves together memory and present, positioning itself as one of the most introspective chapters of his recent output.
Meanwhile, the former Beatle has once again turned the spotlight on his solo beginnings, with the documentary "Paul McCartney: Man On The Run", directed by Morgan Neville. "Paul McCartney: Man On The Run" tells the story of the decade of transformation that followed the breakup of the Beatles and the rise of Wings. Through archival footage, Linda McCartney's photographs, and interviews with Paul, Linda, Mary and Stella McCartney, as well as band members, Sean Ono Lennon, Mick Jagger, Chrissie Hynde and others, the film carefully reconstructs a period often flattened by the historical narrative.
Here's the trailer for "Paul McCartney: Man On The Run" below.
Morgan Neville explains the meaning of the project like this: "When people talk about the great artists of the Seventies, Paul McCartney is rarely mentioned. Not because he wasn't central, but because the weight of what he'd already done with the Beatles kept defining him. With 'Man On The Run' I wanted to watch him running out from under that shadow. It was a path made of unlikely choices: touring in a van, Bruce McMouse, Nigeria, Thrillington, an ode to Scotland. Taken together, those decisions reveal a precise logic. It was the only way to face such overwhelming expectations. During that decade Paul stopped running from something and started moving toward something else: his own voice, family, life. This soundtrack is the musical reflection of that journey".
The documentary is produced by Tremolo in collaboration with MPL Communications and Polygram Entertainment, and will be available on Prime Video from February 27th in over 240 countries. Producers include Morgan Neville, Chloe Simmons and Meghan Walsh for Tremolo, Scott Rodger and Ben Chappell for MPL, Michele Anthony and David Blackman for Polygram Entertainment. Executive producers include Paul McCartney and Caitrin Rogers. McCartney and Neville also serve as executive producers of the soundtrack.
