REM - New Adventures in Hi-Fi – 25th Anniversary Edition

That’s what keeps me,

That’s what keeps me down,

To leave, believe it,

Leave it all behind

(“Leave”)

Just arrived Singapore, San Sebastian, Spain, 26-hour trip

(“Departure”)

“New Adventures in Hi-Fi” nasce dalle viscere del Mostro. Solo quattro pezzi verranno chiusi o finalizzati ai Bad Animals Studio di Seattle (“New Test Leper”, “How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us”, “E-Bow The Letter”, “Be Mine”). Il resto che ascoltiamo, è tutto nato “on the road”: le note di copertina specificano tra parentesi dove la canzone è stata partorita. Emblematica “Zilther” registrata in “Dressing Room Philadelphia”.

Ad anticipare l’album, il duetto con Patti Smith in “E-bow The Letter”, una “vomit song” epistolare fuori da ogni logica radiofonica, in cui Stipe canta “This fame thing, I don’t get it” e “It can take you far, this star thing, I don’t get it”, abdicando ancora una volta al ruolo di rockstar, dimostrando quanto i Rem vogliano essere un’altra cosa.

How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us”.

1988-2011”. “Leave” (Alternate Version) – uscita nella colonna sonora di “A Life Less Ordinary” e presente nella versione bonus di “In Time: The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003” – potrebbe essere tranquillamente inserita in “Up”.

I'm not scared

I'm outta here
