New album on the way for Toro y Moi. The American musician and producer, born Chazwick Bradley Bundick, has announced the release of “Hole Erth”, a title that pays homage to the counterculture magazine “Whole Earth Catalog”, active from the late '60s to the late '90s. The release is set for September 6 via Dead Oceans.
The new record arrives two years after its predecessor, “Mahal“.
The album, recorded between 2023 and 2024, features several guests, including Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie, The Postal Service), Kevin Abstract (Brockhampton), Porches and Glaive. Here's the video for the first single, “Tuesday”.
Toro Y Moi is chill-wave's tailor. Starting out at just twenty, writing sunny power-pop sketches with "real" instruments like guitar and drums, Toro gradually soaked his sound in electronics to arrive at the full-on chill-wave of his first official albums released under the Carpark label, but then curiously found himself, between 2014 and 2015, stripping the electro component back out of his sound via his Les Sins alias, in order to head back down pop/rock paths as Toro Y Moi with the disorienting album “What For?”. One eye on style, one on the keyboard, and one on the guitars.
Chazwick Bradley Bundick is devoting an entire career to chasing lost adolescence, one of the most skillful weavers of youthful dreams working in sound today.
