Perfectly acidified little synths, rubbery basses bouncing here and there across the dancefloor,
groove steeped in sea salt and mojitos: nothing new on that front
Toro Y Moi, if not the same renowned knack for getting hips moving to the rhythm of his psychedelic vibrations.
“Outer Peace”, Chaz Bear's sixth album, is
disco-music for those who have gone through
the summer of chillwave and come out of it indelibly struck. More than a collection of songs, it's a 30-minute mix that flows loose and fizzy. Maybe it lacks the hits that adorned the previous “
Boo Boo”, but Toro Y Moi remains a class act at doing exactly that thing you expect from him, which he keeps doing just right (see: “Fading”, “Ordinary Pleasure”, “Freelance”).
And in the end that's enough, because it's exactly like that fresh tropical-fruit cocktail you've been drinking for years at the same kiosk: the ingredients are always the same, no surprises, but how good it tastes in summer.
