Radiohead launch “Kid A Mnesia”: Coachella debut and immersive tour

08-04-2026

After taking shape as a virtual experience in 2021, “Kid A Mnesia” is finally becoming a physical installation. Radiohead will launch the project on April 10th inside a new underground bunker built for Coachella. Once the festival wraps up, the audiovisual experience will be presented for a limited run in a handful of selected cities: Brooklyn, Chicago, Mexico City and San Francisco.

The installation houses the film of the same name, built from the visual artwork created by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood while working on “Kid A” and “Amnesiac“, paired with a soundtrack drawn from the original multitracks. “Motion Picture House: Kid A Mnesia” will also include galleries featuring the two artists' large-scale works, faithfully recreating the aesthetic of that era.

In 2021, “Kid A Mnesia” was released as an interactive experience for PC, Mac and PS5: more of a navigable art installation than a video game, it let users wander through warped environments built from artwork, isolated tracks and figures tied to the two albums. A feverish, disorienting world, conceived from the outset for a physical space but adapted to digital form because of the pandemic. That vision has now taken concrete shape. Radiohead have confirmed the creation of the large-scale installation: “Motion Picture House: Kid A Mnesia” is the version that couldn't be built back then. Fitted with a custom-designed six-point surround sound system, the experience is described by Thom Yorke as “a monster trapped in an abandoned museum of lost and forgotten things”.

The debut - Consequence reports - will take place underground, inside a roughly 1,600-square-metre structure with ceilings over 11 metres high, built beneath the Empire Polo Club. All festival ticket holders will be able to access the installation. The project will then go on tour to select North American cities for limited runs.

Entry will be granted in two-hour slots from Thursday to Sunday: around 75 minutes dedicated to the main installation and the film, plus free time to visit the galleries. An online pre-registration phase is planned, with a reserved presale followed by general public access.

On the live front, Ed O'Brien recently revealed that the band has mapped out a touring plan starting in 2027: about twenty shows a year, each on a different continent. O'Brien, who will release his new solo album "Blue Morpho" on May 22, also hinted at a new project from Thom Yorke arriving by the end of the year.
