Thom Yorke is the singer and leader of Radiohead, the British band that between the '90s and the early years of the new millennium established itself as a worldwide phenomenon.
After the release of the album “Hail To The Thief” (2003), the band is worn out from the heavy workload and the long tour: some internal tension emerges, pushing Yorke to work on his own for a while, with the help of the group's longtime producer, Nigel Godrich. His first solo release is a song on the soundtrack of “A Scanner Darkly”.
In 2006 the band gets back to work, but in the middle of a European and American tour, the release of “The Eraser”, Yorke's solo debut, is unexpectedly announced: the album arrives in July, produced by Godrich; it's released by XL (the label of the White Stripes) and blends Radiohead's rock with the electronic beats that had already surfaced on occasion from “Kid A” onward.
Yorke continues his career outside the band with Atoms for Peace, a supergroup formed in late 2009 with Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Nigel Godrich (already Radiohead's producer), Joey Waronker (drums) and Mauro Refosco. The band releases “Amok” in 2013 and goes on tour, also playing songs from Yorke's solo album.
A new solo album, “Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes”, is released as a surprise in 2014, sold via BitTorrent. As always, it's produced by Nigel Godrich.
In 2018, “Suspiria (Music for the Luca Guadagnino Film)” comes out on XL Recordings. The album contains 25 tracks composed for Luca Guadagnino's film “Suspiria”. The record was preceded by the single “Suspirium”, awarded Best Original Song at the 75th Venice Film Festival.
Yorke's third solo album, “Anima”, was released in 2019, accompanied by a short film made with director Paul Thomas Anderson.
