Oneida announce their return to Italy in May for a series of shows touching down in several cities across the country. The Brooklyn experimental rock outfit will bring to the stage their most recent work, “Expensive Air“, released in July 2024 on Joyful Noise Recordings.
The Italian tour includes five dates: Thursday the 12th at Azienda Agricola Giuseppe Maggiori in Colleredo di Monte Albano (Udine), Wednesday the 13th at Spazio Teatro 89 in Milan, Thursday the 14th at Darsena Live Music in Castiglione Del Lago (Perugia), Friday the 15th at Circolo Dong in Macerata, and Saturday the 16th at Colorificio Kroen in Verona.
Presale information for the Friuli and Umbria dates is not yet available. Tickets for the Macerata and Verona shows, however, are already on sale on “Diyticket.it” at 22 euros plus presale fees and 16.22 euros plus presale fees respectively, while for the Milan show tickets are already available on “Dice.fm” at 15 euros for early bird.
Oneida are an experimental rock outfit formed in Brooklyn in the late Nineties, known for a radical and ever-shifting approach to song form. The band has built its identity on long, hypnotic structures, obsessive rhythms and an easy command of noise, kraut-rock, psychedelia and improvisation.
Across a vast and uneven discography, the band has alternated extreme, sprawling works with more compact records, always keeping a strong experimental edge. A reference point for the New York underground, Oneida have influenced a wide swath of American independent music, staying true to a compromise-free aesthetic and a constant drive for sonic exploration.
Following on from the more accessible tracks of their last album, Oneida's “Expensive Air” offers a set of songs that won't disappoint their most die-hard fans, and that will certainly please those who look to rock chiefly (solely?) for an easy escape from the ugliness of the world around them — even though this, their seventeenth record, was conceived, in Bobby Matador's words, as “a darker, looser and noisier counterpart to ‘Success’“.
