Johnny Marr announces new album “The Age Of Everything”. Listen to the single “Spin”

16-06-2026

Johnny Marr will release his new album “The Age Of Everything” on October 2nd, his first solo record of new material since “Fever Dreams Pts 1-4” in 2022. The announcement comes alongside the release of the single “Spin” (listen below), the track that opens the album and confirms the trademark sound of the former Smiths guitarist: shimmering guitars, immediate melodies and songwriting that keeps moving between British pop and auteur rock.
This marks Marr's fifth studio album under his own name. After a career built between the Smiths, collaborations and side projects, the Manchester musician has spent recent years consolidating a solo path that culminated in 2023 with the compilation “Spirit Power: The Best Of Johnny Marr”.

Speaking about the new record, Marr explained the meaning behind the title: “This is the record that had the most cathartic effect on me. The title came to me very early on in the writing process and became an idea I couldn't shake off. It felt like it summed up how a lot of people feel today. It's a concept that encompasses everything, but not necessarily in a negative sense. There's a feeling of cultural overwhelm caused by technology, but looking at it from another angle, there can also be a sense of possibility”.
According to Marr, “The Age Of Everything” therefore reflects both the sense of saturation that defines the present and the opportunities offered by an increasingly connected world.

The album's tracklist:

  1. Spin
  2. Beyond The Rain
  3. It's Time
  4. How Come
  5. Ophelia
  6. That Feeling
  7. In And Out Of Love
  8. Just Once More
  9. Fire With Fire
  10. All In A Life

The release arrives at a particularly busy time for the musician, who has recently been involved in collaborations with Damon Albarn, Grian Chatten and Kae Tempest, as well as numerous live appearances alongside Franz Ferdinand, The The, Gorillaz and Pet Shop Boys. The announcement also coincides with the fortieth anniversary of “The Queen Is Dead”, the Smiths' landmark album released in 1986.
