Gorillaz are a British band formed in 1998 by singer and multi-instrumentalist Damon Albarn (Blur) and cartoonist Jamie Hewlett.
The band is made up of four animated characters: 2D (singer and keyboardist), Murdoc Niccals (bassist and founder of the group), Noodle (guitarist) and Russel Hobbs (drummer).
From 2010 to 2011 a temporary fifth member was added due to plot developments, replacing Noodle: Cyborg Noodle, while in 2018, for a brief period, Ace (a member of the Gangreen Gang from the cartoon The Powerpuff Girls) replaced Murdoc, who had ended up in prison.
The band's music is the result of a collaboration between various artists, with Albarn being the only permanent real-life member.
