Editors: listen to the new single “Seriously”. New album out in October, Italian date set for 2027

15-09-2026

“Seriously” is the new single by Editors and serves as the lead track from “Surface, Echo & Sound”, the British band's eighth studio album, out October 30, 2026. The song shows one of the directions the group has taken for the new record, moving between new wave and indie-rock, with ringing guitars and an immediacy that marks a partial reversal from the more electronic atmospheres of “EBM“, the 2022 album made with the contribution of Benjamin John Power, aka Blanck Mass.
The working method has changed too. In the summer of 2025, Editors got together in a rehearsal room in Stafford, reviving a collective creative process closer to the one they used at the start of their career. Tom Smith brought the group a set of compositions written mainly on acoustic guitar, then handed their development over to the whole band. It was a way of putting the songs back at the centre, even before arrangements and production. “Seriously” reflects this approach in its lyrics too, focused on searching for a way out in moments when everything seems to grow darker. It's a theme that Smith connects to the image traditionally associated with Editors, who are often described mainly through their darker side. Listen to “Seriously” below.

“A lot of what's been written about us in the past focused on darkness or gloom”, the singer said. “But whenever someone talks to me about our band, or shows me a tattoo with one of our lyrics, it's always words that carry love, warmth and hope”.
After Smith's solo venture with “There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn’t There In The Light“, released in 2025, the return of Editors thus seems to mark a rediscovery of the band's more direct and collective dimension.
Editors will also present the new album live. The tour will stop in Italy on February 3, 2027 at Alcatraz in Milan. Click for info and tickets
