David Byrne announces new concert film “Who Is The Sky?”

David Byrne returns to the cinema with “Who Is The Sky?”, a new concert film directed by Brady Corbet, director and screenwriter of “The Brutalist“. The project continues the long tradition of live films by the former Talking Heads frontman, and follows “American Utopia“, brought to the screen by Spike Lee.
The film was shot over several nights in Baltimore, the city where Byrne grew up, during his most recent tour. Details on the release format and date will be announced soon.
Particularly bold is Corbet's choice to shoot the film in 70mm, capable of capturing the full visual scope of the show.

Byrne described his reaction to the project like this: “When Brady told me he wanted to film our show in 70 millimeters – 70 millimeters! – I didn't understand what difference that would make, until I saw some of the frames he sent me. He was right: it really does capture the panoramic, visual scale of the show. I'd never seen anything like it.”

At the heart of the concert film is “Who Is The Sky?“, the latest album from David Byrne, shot through with wry irony and a reflective lightness. On stage, around Byrne, musicians and performers move without fixed hierarchies, like a contemporary marching band that turns the stage into a mobile, almost cinematic space. The digital set design alternates natural landscapes with disarming slogans, steering clear of anything didactic in favor of allusion.
