Ahead of what would have been David Bowie's eightieth birthday in 2027, Bowie80 has officially taken shape: a sprawling international programme of exhibitions, symphonic productions, reissues and special events set to span the whole of next year.
Festivities will kick off on the weekend of 8-9 January 2027 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, with panels, in-depth talks and a photographic exhibition centred on previously unseen shots drawn from the official archives. On the visual front too, from February 2027 the Morrison Hotel Gallery will present the retrospective “Strange Fascination” across its New York and West Hollywood venues, tracing six pivotal phases of the Thin White Duke's artistic journey.
Among the most significant projects is “Bowie (Breaking) Glass”, a symphonic show conceived by Schirmer Theatrical together with the Østre Gasværk Teater: the production will debut in Copenhagen in spring 2027, weaving the artist's isolated vocal masters together with live orchestral performances and scores by Philip Glass.
The immersive exhibition “David Bowie: You're Not Alone” will also continue its tour, moving on from its debut at London's Lightroom to Manchester, Brighton and Hamburg (at Port des Lumières), marking the format's first stop in continental Europe. At the same time, the Victoria and Albert Museum will take its archival collection “David Bowie: On Tour” on the road, stopping in the British cities of Dundee and Blackpool.
On the fashion side, meanwhile, there will be a collaboration with Nordstrom for the distribution of themed collections developed by brands such as Paul Smith, Marc Jacobs, Undercover and AllSaints. Further details on the schedule and new audiovisual releases tied to the Bowie80 brand will be announced between late 2026 and the early months of 2027.
