From The Weeknd to Hot Chip & Sleaford Mods, from Robert Plant to Pino Daniele: the most interesting new releases

The Weeknd – “Timeless” Ft. Playboi Carti

The new album by The Weeknd finally has a release date: “Hurry Up Tomorrow” will come out on January 24, 2025. The announcement was made by The Weeknd himself on social media. On the evening of January 25, 2025, The Weeknd will perform live on stage at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California, to present all the songs from the new album live.

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” will be The Weeknd's sixth album of new material after “Kiss Land” in 2013, “Beauty Behind The Madness” in 2015, “Starboy” in 2016, “After Hours” in 2020, and “Dawn FM” in 2022. But it could also be the last one under the pseudonym that made him famous worldwide: Abel Tesfaye reportedly wants to release music from now on only under his own name. “Hurry Up Tomorrow” will be a project centered on rebirth, described as “the harbinger of a new era”.

Hot Chip & Sleaford Mods – “Cat Burglar”/”Nom Nom Nom”

Hot Chip and Sleaford Mods join forces on a brand-new project, becoming Hot Mods. Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods described the experience as a total immersion: “We just let go. ‘Nom Nom Nom’ is a natural extension of our album ‘UK Grim’, enriched by Andrew's keyboard riff and turned by Hot Chip into a track with real impact, with an excellent chorus from Alexis Taylor.” The other track, “Cat Burglar”, was instead described as a “strange jam between prog-rock and B-52s”, venturing through the recesses of modern human experience, blending irony and unease in a musical exploration that sounds as unpredictable as it is fascinating. A collaboration that highlights the distinctive traits of both bands, confirming their experimental attitude and their desire to push beyond the boundaries of their respective sonic languages. Robert Plant – “Saving Grace” Ft. Suzi Dian

Robert Plant on stage with Saving Grace ft. Suzi Dian. The concert recorded last October 25 at the Baloise Session, a festival held every year between October and November in Switzerland near Basel, is now available on YouTube. The Led Zeppelin singer is carrying on this live project on a well-received tour that also stopped in Italy (here's the review of the Rome concert).

The concert's setlist features tracks drawn from his solo discography, some reworked Led Zeppelin classics, and plenty of traditional European music, rearranged by the great English rocker to give the songs the typical Celtic and exotic atmospheres of his recent live shows.

Below is the full stream of Robert Plant's concert, followed by the setlist:

Pino Daniele – "Again"

After last Sunday's preview at the Stadio Maradona ahead of the Napoli-Roma match, "Again" is now officially out. The posthumous unreleased track by Pino Daniele is now available on major streaming platforms and in a lyric video featuring footage of the musician in the studio. Recorded in 2009 and mastered in 2024 by Pino "Pinaxa" Pischetola, with mixing by Tommy Vicari.
