I SINCOPATICI - La Corazzata Potëmkin

2026 (Self-released)
contemporary, post-rock

I Sincopatici are a Milan-based ensemble founded by Francesca Badalini, long dedicated to the musical reinterpretation of great masterpieces of silent cinema. Badalini carries the project forward with real continuity, also serving as creator and instructor of the course “Techniques of Improvisation and Composition for Silent Cinema” at the Civica Scuola di Musica “Claudio Abbado” in Milan.

Their discography includes numerous landmark titles of the era, among them “Nosferatu“, “Il gabinetto del dottor Caligari” and “Metropolis“, up to their most recent scoring work in 2024: that of the pioneering Italian silent film “L'inferno“, inspired by Dante's Divine Comedy.

Between 2025 and 2026, the quartet – made up of Francesca Badalini (piano, electric guitar), Silvia Maffeis (violin), Andrea Grumelli (bass) and Teo Ravelli (drums and electronics) – breathes new life into “Battleship Potemkin“, one of Sergei Eisenstein's masterpieces, through a stylistically solid and strongly cinematic blend in which classical music, post-rock, progressive and avant-garde openings coexist naturally, often within the same track. The five compositions can thus be read as five brief improvised suites.

The tight rhythms accompanying the more dynamic sequences – and they are anything but occasional – heighten the narrative tension without ever overwhelming the images. Revisiting the celebrated Odessa Steps sequence set to I Sincopatici's music proves, once again, a powerfully immersive experience, one capable of renewing the film's emotional force.
