Tori Amos: listen to the first single from the new album, “Stronger Together”

24-02-2026

Last month Tori Amos officially announced the new album “In Times Of Dragons”, due out in May. Now the singer-songwriter unveils the first single, “Stronger Together”, which features backing vocals from her daughter Tash.

"'In Times Of Dragons' is a story that takes the shape of a parable about the dangerous times we're living through, in which democracy itself is being called into question," explains Amos. She adds: "As I flee the character of my husband, a sadistic billionaire embodied as a Lizard Demon, I run into people I hadn't seen in years. I wasn't allowed to spend time with them, and they themselves had kept their distance because of the relationship I'd found myself in. To avoid being caught and dragged back to the Lizard Demon's penthouse, I head for the deep South of the United States, trying to throw him and his henchmen off my trail. Among the many characters I meet along the way is The Daughter. We spend time together, and we sing."

'Stronger Together' represents where this bond arrives, the moment The Daughter chooses to stay by my side, whatever trials await us. Whatever the future holds, we promise each other we'll be stronger together.

“In Times Of Dragons” will be released on May 1st via Universal/Fontana.

After an unexpected, almost fairy-tale-like detour, Tori Amos returns to reckon with the harshness of the present. The American singer-songwriter has announced a new album of original material, openly political, arriving this spring and digging into the crisis of American democracy. A year ago she caught everyone off guard with “The Music Of Tori And The Muses”, a collection of songs for children tied to the book of the same name and nominated for the 2025 Grammy Award for Best Children's Music Album. Now, with “In Times Of Dragons”, out May 1st, Tori Amos completely changes register. It's a work driven by an unambiguously stated civic urgency: “A metaphorical story about the fight for democracy against tyranny”, in Tori's own words, one that she says reflects “the current, abominable, and non-accidental real-time burning of democracy by the 'Lizard Demons who think they're dictators' in their usurpation of America”. A clear reference to the current American political climate and to Donald Trump, already a target of her outspokenness in the past.

Indeed, this isn't the first time Amos has woven together music and political critique. In 2017, in the wake of Trump's election victory, she released “Native Invader”, an album featuring tracks like “Up The Creek” and “Bang”, marked by a strong civic tension. In 2021, commenting on the situation in the United States, she spoke openly of a collective trauma: “The idea that we elected people willing to question the will of the people and drag us into authoritarianism, I think, traumatized all of us even more than we already were”. After the assault on Capitol Hill, she added: “I hit a wall and a sadness overwhelmed me, and I couldn't shake it off”.

2026 is shaping up to be an eventful year for Tori Amos. The red-haired singer-songwriter from North Carolina will also release a lavish reissue of her 2001 covers album, “Strange Little Girls”, on which she embodies twelve distinct characters to reinterpret songs originally written and performed by men. This expanded edition, arriving on February 20, 2026 via Rhino, includes the twelve original covers that defy genre boundaries – from Eminem and Depeche Mode to Slayer – plus four bonus tracks, two already known as B-sides from the era, “After All” by David Bowie and “Only Women Bleed” by Alice Cooper, and two entirely unreleased ones: covers of “Growin' Up” by Bruce Springsteen and “Hoover Factory” by Elvis Costello. The collector's 2xLP vinyl box set will be available with 12 different album cover variants, one for each character, with the full contents also offered on 2xCD.

A European and UK tour is also planned for spring 2026: the only Italian date is set for Tuesday 5 May 2026 at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan. Tori will be joined by longtime collaborators Jon Evans (bass and musical direction) and Ash Soan (drums), along with backing vocalists Liv Gibson, Deni Hlavlinka and Hadley Kennary.

Myra Ellen Amos was born in Newton (North Carolina) on August 22, 1963: she is the daughter of a Methodist reverend and a teacher of Cherokee descent. She started playing piano at just two years old and at 5 won a scholarship to the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, one of America's most prestigious conservatories. Since her 1992 debut album “Little Earthquakes”, Tori Amos has built a catalogue defined by bold storytelling (with a total of 12 million copies sold), carried by a truly unique voice.

Tori the redhead, the sinner on the cross, the Cornflake Girl, the goddess of fire (and of rock), the girl from the choir, the Venusian, the restless traveler, the beekeeper, the American doll. So many masks and trajectories for a career that, for at least a decade, dominated the firmament of female songwriting. Her impudent freshness as an eternal child, her tender, wounded rapture, and her immense talent as a musician stolen from the world of Classical music all came together in a sequence of magical piano/voice ballads.
