Tori Amos releases a new track: listen to “Shush”. The album “In Times Of Dragons” and an Italian date on the way

24-03-2026

Tori Amos returns with a new track from “In Times Of Dragons“, the concept album due out in the coming months. The song is called “Shush” and expands on the thematic framework already introduced by the previous single “Stronger Together”.

After the opening episode, which also featured the vocal contribution of her daughter, "Shush" pushes further into the project's narrative and symbolic dimension. At its centre is a fictionalized version of Amos herself, imagined as the wife of an authoritarian, power-hungry billionaire, a key figure for reading the record's political subtext. In presenting the track, Amos describes this character as a synthesis of contemporary tensions: an economic elite that sees democratic institutions as subordinate to its own interests and looks with suspicion on the right to vote. The reference is to a drift towards feudal-style models of power, today disguised as technological modernity but rooted in ancient logics.

“Shush” thus fits into the overall design of “In Times Of Dragons“, a conceptual work that weaves together fantastical imagery and political reflection, touching on democracy, authoritarianism and allegorical figures such as the “lizard demons” conjured up by the artist.

The album is due out on 1 May via Universal/Fontana and is already available for pre-order. The release will be followed by a summer tour across the United States.

The project follows "Tori And The Muses," a children's book published in 2025 together with a companion record, a further step in the recent activity of the American singer-songwriter.

This isn't the first time Amos has intertwined music with political critique. In 2017, in the wake of Trump's election victory, she released “Native Invader”, an album featuring tracks like “Up The Creek” and “Bang”, marked by strong civic tension. In 2021, commenting on the situation in the United States, she spoke openly of a collective trauma: “I think the idea that we elected people willing to question the will of the people and drag us into authoritarianism has traumatized us all even more than we already were”. After the assault on Capitol Hill, she added: “I hit a wall and a sadness overwhelmed me and I couldn't shake it off”.

2026 is shaping up to be an eventful year for Tori Amos. The red-haired singer-songwriter from North Carolina will also release a lavish reissue of her 2001 covers album, “Strange Little Girls”, on which she embodies twelve distinct characters to reinterpret songs originally written and performed by men. This expanded edition, arriving on February 20, 2026 via Rhino, includes the twelve original covers that defy genre boundaries – from Eminem and Depeche Mode to Slayer – plus four bonus tracks, two already known as B-sides from the era, “After All” by David Bowie and “Only Women Bleed” by Alice Cooper, and two entirely unreleased ones: covers of “Growin' Up” by Bruce Springsteen and “Hoover Factory” by Elvis Costello. The collector's 2xLP vinyl box set will be available with 12 different album cover variants, one for each character, with the full contents also offered on 2xCD.

A European and UK tour is also planned for spring 2026: the only Italian date is set for Tuesday 5 May 2026 at the Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan. Tori will be joined by longtime collaborators Jon Evans (bass and musical direction) and Ash Soan (drums), along with backing vocalists Liv Gibson, Deni Hlavlinka and Hadley Kennary.
