Sunn O))) announce new self-titled album: listen to the single “Glory Black”

Sunn O))) are entering a new phase of their history. After the EP "Eternity's Pillars", released as the first signal of their partnership with Sub Pop, the duo made up of Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson has now announced their first full-length album for the storied Seattle label. The self-titled record "Sunn O)))" will be released on Friday, April 3, 2026. It was co-produced and mixed by the band together with Brad Wood (Hum, Tar, Sunny Day Real Estate, Liz Phair), and was recorded at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, in January 2025.

It's now possible to listen to the album's closing track, "Glory Black." A track that neatly sums up the record's approach: deeply detuned guitars, feedback, and a gradual opening onto a more rarefied dimension, where a meditative piano writing surfaces.

This is the American band's tenth studio work and the first made up exclusively of unreleased material since "Pyroclasts" (2019).

After "Eternity's Pillars," the path taken by O'Malley and Anderson appears increasingly oriented toward subtraction. No guests, no outside collaborations: just the project's original core. A choice that also reflects the evolution of the doom priests' most recent live shows, ever more essential, immersive and ritualistic, focused on the physical impact of sound and its duration.

The recording environment itself played a significant role in the creative process. "The big room had huge windows looking out onto trees. Nature became part of the project," O'Malley explained. This relationship with the setting is clearly reflected in the music: alongside the compact, layered drones emerge moments of suspension, field recordings, water sounds and brief piano interludes that introduce a more fragile, contemplative dimension.

The visual apparatus also helps define the record's identity. Front and back covers feature two paintings by Mark Rothko, with the artwork reversed on the UK and European editions. The liner notes are penned by Robert Macfarlane, author of "Is A River Alive?" (2025), named by the band as one of their main conceptual inspirations. The packaging and merchandise are rounded out by illustrations from Élodie Lesourd.

"Sunn O)))" is already available for pre-order on CD, double vinyl and digital formats. The album's release will be accompanied by an already-announced international tour: the first dates are set for North America, with further shows to be revealed.
