Smashing Pumpkins: the setlist from yesterday's show in Milan and tomorrow's in Rome. A tribute to Ozzy Osbourne

31-07-2025

Last night, at the Parco della Musica in Segrate, on the outskirts of Milan, the Smashing Pumpkins kicked off the Italian leg of their "The Aghori Tour", the world tour in support of their latest album, "Aghori Mhori Mei" (released digitally last August 2024 and on physical formats on November 22).

The second and final Italian date is scheduled for tomorrow, Friday August 1st, at the Ippodromo delle Capannelle in Rome. The tour kicked off on July 27 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

During the Milan show, the band paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne by playing the intro of "N.I.B." by Black Sabbath. At the end of the song, Billy Corgan simply said: "God bless Ozzy", before launching into the final song of the set, "The Everlasting Gaze". Throughout the evening, the crowd repeatedly broke into chants of "Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy!", a testament to the widespread affection for the former Sabbath frontman.

Here is the setlist from the Smashing Pumpkins' concert in Milan, which Corgan and co. will most likely replicate in Rome as well:

  • Glass' Theme
  • Heavy Metal Machine
  • Where Boys Fear to Tread
  • Pentagrams
  • Today

"Aghori Mhori Mei", the thirteenth studio album by Smashing Pumpkins, marks the return of the "classic" lineup, with Billy Corgan joined by James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin, while Jeff Schroeder is left out. Recorded between 2022 and 2024, the album blends alternative rock, progressive and heavy metal influences across ten tracks written and produced by Corgan together with Howard Willing. The first single released, "Sighommi", a fast, melodic track, quickly climbed the American alternative charts, reaching as high as number five on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.

Formed in Chicago in 1988, Smashing Pumpkins came together thanks to Billy Corgan (vocals, guitar), joined by James Iha (guitar), D’arcy Wretzky (bass) and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums). With their blend of alternative rock, psychedelia and metal influences, the band became one of the most important acts of the Nineties. Their most celebrated record, “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” (1995), a double album featuring classics like “1979”, “Tonight, Tonight” and “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”, defined an era.

After the band's split in 2000 and a series of reunions with different lineups, the group reformed around the central figure of Corgan, with Iha and Chamberlin once again by his side, joined by newcomer Kiki Wong on guitar to round out the lineup.

Meanwhile, the definitive edition of "Machina I" and "Machina II" is on the way — the one Billy Corgan had always envisioned. "The album had been conceived as a kind of pseudo rock opera, but when the band broke up in the middle of the process, the album was never completed the way I had written it. I consider it an unfinished work", Corgan said in a 2014 interview with Stereogum. Now Smashing Pumpkins have finally announced details of the reissue of "Machina/The Machines Of God" (2000) and its twin "Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music". The release is set for August 22, via UMe and Madame Zuzu's Tea Shop, in various formats.

The remastered reissue of “Machina/The Machines of God” will be available on 180g black vinyl (2LP), in a limited crown red/black 180g vinyl edition, as well as in the usual CD and digital formats. A super-limited deluxe vinyl box set, featuring a whopping 80 tracks – 48 from “Machina” plus 32 bonus tracks including demos, outtakes and live recordings – will be available exclusively at Corgan's Madame Zuzu's Tea Shop in Highland Park, Illinois. For the first time, the two albums are being officially brought together in a single release. The vinyl box set is also the only way to hear all 80 tracks in full on this format. "It's taken about 25 years to release Machina the way we in the band originally envisioned it, and with MadameZuzus.com as the only place to buy this massive 80-song collection, I couldn't be prouder," said Corgan. "Machina was meant to be our swan song, and finishing it was truly a labor of love, even though we were falling apart at the time. But with the world tour coming in 2025, and my solo tour with The Machines of God, this box set is both a celebration and a testament of will. It was the songs themselves that helped me, James and Jimmy keep the faith."
