Billy Corgan will bring the orchestral project “A Night Of Mellon Collie And Infinite Sadness” to Europe and the UK, a series of concerts that reinterprets the Smashing Pumpkins’ landmark album “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” in operatic form.
The show, first announced in March 2025 and already staged in the United States that same year, sees Corgan backed by a 60-piece orchestra for a new interpretation of the double album released in 1995. Having debuted at Chicago's Lyric Opera House with a seven-night residency, the project was presented by the musician as “a completely new sonic and visual experience”.
The European dates will kick off in September with two shows at London's Royal Festival Hall, followed by stops in Antwerp, Paris and Madrid. The show, titled “A Night Of Mellon Collie And Infinite Sadness Featuring Billy Corgan”, was composed by Corgan alongside conductor James Lowe and combines symphonic arrangements, visuals and vocal performances by various guests.
According to the official press release, the show's aim is “to pay tribute to an album that defined an era, while at the same time expanding the very concept of opera”. Among the production's key moments is an orchestral version of “Tonight, Tonight”, described as especially intense on an emotional level.
The costumes were created by the fashion house House Of Gilles By Gilles. The vocalists involved include Ed Parks for the London, Belgium and France dates, as well as Sydney Mancasola, Zoie Reams, Dominick Valdes Chenes and Dean Murphy, the latter appearing only at the Spanish date.
Pre-sale will begin on 12 May at 10:00 BST, while general sale kicks off on 13 May for Antwerp and Paris and on 14 May for London and Madrid.
Here are the confirmed European dates (Italy is not on the list for now):
The tour announcement comes after the release of the deluxe reissue for the 30th anniversary of “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness”, which came out last year with over 80 minutes of previously unreleased recordings from the 1996 tour, new liner notes written by Corgan, a custom tarot card set and seven collectible lithographs.
Speaking about the album in a previous interview, Corgan had this to say about reaching the 30-year milestone: "It's strange, because I can't believe it's been 30 years. I'm very excited, but at the same time I keep asking myself what happened in all that time."
