The Raccoon Music Award, the contest dedicated to the best emerging scene under 30, is entering its decisive phase. On Friday 3 April, the stage of Rome's Wishlist Club will host the second of two semifinals, the last crucial step to determine who will earn a spot in the final on 13 June on the prestigious stage of the Monk.
The initiative, with Ondarock serving as official partner in both promotion and judging, aims to give voice to original, well-structured projects, offering a genuine showcase for new independent music.
The night: confirmations and surprises
Opening the evening will be Shylock, with their British-flavored pop rock, and another act whose name will only be revealed close to the show. Then comes the real contest: six artists will go head to head in 12-minute sets each, in an evening designed to break down the barriers between stage and audience (it will be a strictly standing show) to encourage a more direct listening experience.
The artists in competition
The lineup for this second semifinal spans a range of different genres and attitudes:
FlowHertz
A band immersed in funk-dance rhythms. Theirs is a fresh mix that ranges from disco-funk to Neapolitan tradition, with well-arranged, compelling original tracks.
Scar
Indie singer-songwriter fare that favors an intimate style and introspective lyrics. Scar shows off excellent technical chops on stage, the fruit of his artistic training at Officina Pasolini.
CorpoCeleste
A contemporary pop project that, accompanied by piano, tackles emotional and generational themes with extreme delicacy, putting songwriting front and center.
LOĒ
A musical project that combines the power of a raspy, expressive voice with electronic sounds, communicating through a fluid, direct language.
Make it One
Pure demented rock. Between playful riffs and surreal lyrics, the band gives off a sincere energy, at times acidic and distorted, with clear Zappa-esque influences.
Upnea
An urban-experimental journey born from an obsessive quest: "to get out of one's own skin." His rap stands out for its cross-genre approach and lyrics that manage to break free from today's clichés.
Judges and voting rules
The performances will be judged by a panel made up of Claudio Fabretti, director and founder of OndaRock, Paolo Chemnitz, OndaRock editor and head of the Dark section, Ljós Berinn, also an editor at our webzine, and Alessandro Guardia, founder and director of the label Alfa Music. The verdict, however, will be the result of a joint effort: the audience vote will also be decisive and will be weighted together with the judges' technical score.
There will be plenty of interactive moments between sets, with quizzes and games offering prizes up for grabs for those in attendance.
