Trent Reznor talks about the birth of Nine Inch Noize, his new project with Boys Noize. Watch the live video at Coachella

Just days ahead of its release, Trent Reznor has given a full rundown of the debut from Nine Inch Noize, his project shared with Boys Noize.

The album, due out on April 17, is a direct extension of the set the duo played on April 11 at Coachella, where they delivered an electronic reworking of the Nine Inch Nails catalogue. The tracklist – twelve songs in all – matches the live setlist exactly: reworked versions of “Vessel”, “She's Gone Away”, “Heresy”, “Copy Of A”, “Closer”, “Came Back Haunted” and “As Alive As You Need Me To Be”, alongside “Parasite” (from the How To Destroy Angels project) and a cover of Soft Cell's “Memorabilia”.

The collaboration has roots in their recent joint work: Boys Noize had already joined the band on the "Peel It Back" tour, contributing an electronic segment to the live show, and had worked on remixes of the soundtracks Reznor and Atticus Ross composed for "Challengers" and "Tron: Ares". From there came the idea to develop the project further: a more explicitly electronic take on the NIN universe. "It was so much fun that we thought it was worth expanding and formalizing in some way," Reznor explained.

Speaking of Coachella, the NIN frontman admitted: “So off the cuff I said it would be fun to play a whole set as Nine Inch Noize in the Sahara tent at Coachella. Be careful what you wish for... the next thing I knew we were planning a whole new show to present it the way it deserved.” Reznor also revealed that the album was recorded “all over the place – some parts live, some in the studio, in hotels, on planes, etc. We had a lot of fun revisiting these songs and we hope you enjoy them.” He then urged fans to “play it loud”.

There won't be an immediate live follow-up, though: no tour is planned under the Nine Inch Noize name. Once the festival run is over, Reznor will turn his focus back to Nine Inch Nails, with new material already in the works. Here's the tracklist for “Nine Inch Noize”
