Nine Inch Nails, Trent Reznor's revelation from the stage: “This could be our last tour”

03-03-2026

During Friday night's concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Trent Reznor delivered a message that sounds like a possible farewell to touring. From the stage, the Nine Inch Nails frontman recalled one of the band's earliest shows in the city, likely at the Cain's Ballroom, when they opened for a Peter Murphy gig.

Recalling that show, Reznor mentioned the performance of "Head Like A Hole" and the image of a fan at the back of the room screaming out the lyrics: a moment that, he explained, made him truly understand what it meant to forge a connection with the audience. Then came the line that set off speculation: he doesn't know if there will be more tours after the current "Peel It Back", but said he was proud of the show they'd put on and deeply grateful to everyone who chose to be there that night.

Alongside their live activity, the band has surprise-released “Tron Ares: Divergence”, a 44-track project of remixes and unreleased material that expands the soundtrack to “Tron: Ares”, released in September 2025.

Despite having scored countless films over the years — with a track record that includes two Oscars, three Golden Globes, a Grammy and an Emmy — this marks the first soundtrack officially credited to Nine Inch Nails within the Tron universe, for Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

On the occasion of the soundtrack's release, director Joachim Rønning had highlighted the central role of the music in the project: “Music is a fundamental part of the Tron saga. I knew they'd be composing the score, so I listened to them during filming to get into the rhythm. They're so precise in analyzing every scene. It was important to Trent and Atticus that the music come from the front speakers, as if you were listening to it at a concert”.

“Tron Ares: Divergence” expands that sonic framework with tracks left out of the original release and with a series of reinterpretations from producers and musicians such as Arca, Mark Pritchard, Boys Noize, Lanark Artefax, Chilly Gonzales, Danny L Harle, Jack Dangers, Pixel Grip, Working Men's Club, The Dare and Schwefelgelb.
