Lady Gaga: watch the preview video for the new track from “Harlequin”, filmed at the Louvre

25-09-2024

Last night, out of the blue, Lady Gaga announced the release of the album “Harlequin”, which, as she herself stated on social media, pairs with the film and soundtrack of “Joker: Folie à Deux”, in which she stars in the lead role alongside Joaquin Phoenix. Just a short while ago, Miss Germanotta also posted a preview of the video for a new track taken from “Harlequin”, shot at the Louvre Museum in Paris. You can watch it below.

The album “Harlequin” will be released this Friday, September 27th on digital platforms (physical format from October 11th, pre-order here), while the soundtrack to “Joker – Folie à Deux” will come out on October 4th in both digital and physical editions. The film, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, will hit every Italian cinema from Wednesday, October 2nd, distributed by Warner Bros Italy.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga has spent weeks at the top of the world's most-streamed tracks chart on Spotify with the single “Die With A Smile”, made with Bruno Mars. On the platform the track has already racked up over 388 million streams. Coming soon is also Lady Gaga's new album, so far nicknamed “LG7”.

Due out September 27th, “Harlequin” will include jazz standards such as “Oh, When the Saints” (made famous by Louis Armstrong) and “Get Happy” (performed by Judy Garland), marking her first jazz work since the death of Tony Bennett. Together, Gaga and Bennett had released the albums “Cheek To Cheek” in 2014 and “Love For Sale” in 2021. This project accompanies Todd Phillips' sequel to “Joker”, due out October 4th.

“Harlequin” is therefore the “surprise project” that Lady Gaga had mentioned to Vogue in her September interview. She recorded the new album this year at Rick Rubin's Shangri-La studios in Malibu. Miss Germanotta has also been working on a new pop album, provisionally titled “LG7”, which is expected to arrive in February.

“What I want my fans to know is that I'm really happy,” Lady Gaga told Vogue. “I'm healthy. I think the last time they heard me like this was with ‘Chromatica’, an album that came out of a terrible period for me mentally. I feel like this new album, in many ways, speaks to that same period, but from a perspective of happiness rather than suffering.”

Here is the tracklist for “Harlequin”:

1. Good Morning

2. Get Happy (2024)

3. Oh, When the Saints

4. World on a String

5. If My Friends Could See Me Now

6. That’s Entertainment

7. Smile

8. The Joker

9. Folie à Deux

10. Gonna Build a Mountain

11. Close to You

12. Happy Mistake

13. That’s Life

Lady Gaga's latest work, "Chromatica", was her sixth consecutive album to reach number one on the Billboard 200™ chart – making her the first female artist to achieve this feat within a single decade (2011-2020). Her collaboration with Ariana Grande on "Rain On Me", meanwhile, marked the biggest Spotify debut of 2020, topping both the Spotify Global and Spotify USA charts. Her debut album, "The Fame" (2008), holds the record for the longest run at number one on the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart of all time, with over 175 non-consecutive weeks.
