Godspeed You! Black Emperor: new album on the way, dedicated to Palestine. Listen to the first single “GREY RUBBLE – GREEN SHOOTS”

28-08-2024

An imminent return for Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The Canadian post-rock giants will release a new album on October 4th, entirely dedicated to Palestine. “NO? TITLE AS OF 13 FEBRUARY 2024 28?.?340 DEAD” – this is the title – follows three years after the previous “G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!“. The title refers to the terrible conflict raging in the Gaza Strip: 28,340 is the number of Palestinians killed from the start of the recent conflict up to February 13, 2024. The first single available to stream is “GREY RUBBLE – GREEN SHOOTS”: listen to it below.

In a press release, the Canadian band introduced the album as follows:

“THE PLAIN TRUTH==

we let ourselves drift, talking it over.

every day a new war crime, every day a flower blooming.

we sat together and wrote it in a room,

and then we sat in another room, recording.

NO TITLE=what gestures make sense while small bodies fall? what context? what broken melody?

and then a count and a date to mark a point on the line, the negative process, the growing pile.

the sun setting over beds of ash

as we sat together, talking it over.

the old world order barely pretended to care.

this new century will be even crueler.

war is coming.

don't give up.

pick a side.

hold on.

love”.
