Geese: Cameron Winter announces new solo album

14-09-2026

Cameron Winter is working on a new solo project. While continuing his activity with Geese, the singer and frontman of the New York band has confirmed he's already at work on his second solo album, the follow-up to “Heavy Metal“, the surprising debut released in 2024. It's a project still very much in the making, and one that, by his own account, isn't coming together easily at all.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Winter described going through a creative period very different from the past. Where he once tended to build his songs around complex chords and unusual harmonic choices, these days he seems almost drawn to the opposite extreme, working with far more basic progressions that he then struggles to break free of. “I used to write songs with interesting, almost difficult chords, and now I just go with I-IV-V until it makes me sick,” he explained with his usual irony. “Honestly it's getting worse and worse. It's like this fucking rut just keeps getting deeper, because then I'll throw in a ii chord and immediately think: 'Ugh. Who the fuck do you think you are, Keith Jarrett?'”.

The new material, for now at least, doesn't seem to have won over even the few people Winter has let hear it. That response has led him to stop this kind of preemptive testing, which he now sees as more of a hindrance than a help to the creative process. "I stopped playing the material for other people, because I don't think it's actually useful for me," he said. "I think most of the people I played it for kind of frowned and reacted more or less like: 'So this is actually going to be on the album? This is one of those songs?' I don't think anyone actually liked it."

The album will be the follow-up to “Heavy Metal”, with which Winter launched a career parallel to his work with Geese back in 2024. It was a move made quite early on in the band's story, one that drew no shortage of pushback at the time. The musician, however, had defended the need to make use of his creative freedom, giving space to compositions and ideas not necessarily suited to the group's repertoire.
Ahead of the new album, though, comes another testament to his solo work. On October 9th, “Live At Carnegie Hall” will be released, Winter's first live album, recorded during the concert he held in December 2025 at the storied New York venue. On that occasion the Geese singer performed solo at the piano in front of a sold-out crowd, becoming one of the youngest artists to take on the Carnegie Hall stage alone.
The setlist for the evening was built mainly around tracks from “Heavy Metal”, alongside three previously unreleased songs and other pieces from his catalogue. “Live At Carnegie Hall” will thus capture the barest, most intimate side of Winter's music, entrusted almost entirely to the relationship between voice and piano.

The project will also come with a significant cinematic companion piece: the same performance served as the basis for a concert film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. It's a new step in Winter's rapid rise, split between the increasingly personal path he's carving out away from Geese and the band's own activity, currently on tour.
