Fugazi have released a previously unheard album dedicated to the memory of Steve Albini, who passed away in May 2024 at the age of 61. The record revives a discarded version of “In On The Kill Taker,” the album released by the band in 1993.
In the early Nineties the band recorded the entire album with Albini at Chicago Recording Company. The result didn't fully convince the band, who decided to head back to Washington to re-record the material with producer Ted Nicely, responsible for the definitive version of the record.
Those recordings are now being released under the title "Albini Sessions (Benefit For Letters Charity)". The project brings back to light the mixes Albini made in Chicago, featuring all the tracks that were later re-recorded for the 1993 album.
The release serves a charitable purpose: 100% of proceeds will go to Letters Charity, a non-profit organization that provides direct assistance to families in financial hardship, and one that Albini himself supported for a long time.
"Albini Sessions (Benefit For Letters Charity)" is available exclusively in digital format on Bandcamp for $10, with some tracks already available to stream.
Here's the tracklist for the project.
