Edoardo Bennato: Sony Music buys up his entire catalogue

09-02-2026

Sony Music Italy has acquired the entire recorded catalogue of Edoardo Bennato, completing a process already set in motion in previous years. The label already held the rights to his first six albums, released between 1973 and 1980 – from “Non farti cadere le braccia” to “Sono solo canzonette” – regarded as among the most significant chapters in Italian singer-songwriter music of that era. Under the new deal, the major label also gains control of the rest of his repertoire, including titles such as “È arrivato un bastimento”, “Ok Italy”, “Abbi dubbi” and “Le ragazze fanno grandi sogni”.

The deal was arranged together with Edizioni Musicali Cinquantacinque and NewStep, and marks the start of a structured programme to enhance the value of the catalogue. A multi-pronged strategy is planned: a digital relaunch, new physical editions and vinyl reissues of some key albums. The stated goal is to strengthen Bennato's presence on contemporary platforms, also reaching a younger audience.

Andrea Rosi, president and CEO of Sony Music Italy, stressed the cultural weight of the deal, describing the artist's repertoire as a heritage of Italian popular music of recent decades, deserving of systematic, ongoing promotion. Bennato's catalogue documents a career that left a deep mark on the language of Italian pop-rock: the fusion of rock, blues and singer-songwriter tradition, the use of ironic and biting registers, the ability to blend Anglo-American influences with Mediterranean tradition. A stylistic signature that helped redefine the national music scene between the Seventies and Eighties, retaining a sharp identity over time.

Alongside the recorded-music deal, the Naples-born artist is gearing up for a new live season, with dates to be officially announced soon, in which he will revisit the songs that have marked the various phases of his career.
