Damon Albarn (Blur) writes the score for Luca Guadagnino's new film

31-01-2026

Damon Albarn will score "Artificial", the new Luca Guadagnino film about Sam Altman. The project, described as a comedic drama about artificial intelligence, will star Andrew Garfield as the OpenAI founder, with a screenplay by Simon Rich.

In an interview with Uncut, Albarn confirmed he's at work on electronic and orchestral music, as well as singing some original songs for the film. It's not his first foray into film and theatre: over the years he has composed for movies, operas and stage productions, alongside his work with Blur and Gorillaz.

At the same time, Albarn is busy promoting "The Mountain", the new Gorillaz album due out on February 27, marked by strong Indian musical influences born out of a trip he took with Jamie Hewlett. A personal, painful experience that strengthened their creative partnership and also carried an intimate significance tied to the memory of Albarn's father.

The "The Mountain" tour will also touch down in Italy, with dates at La Prima Estate and in Trieste, confirming a particularly intense and wide-ranging phase in Albarn's career, split between film, pop music and experimentation.
